1st gear wheelie problems
Hey all, I am not a small guy (220lbs) and I cannot run through 1st WOT without the front coming up...way up. I have to let off or shift into 2nd. I am leaning as far forward as possible. My question is if I take the flies out would this help the situation? I am thinking that the torgue kicks in so rapidly with the flies in at a certain point it maybe causing most of my problems. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

If your bike is stock wheelbase, this isn't a problem...it's a sign that the bike runs properly. As for the flies, taking them out will not help reduce wheelies. If you want to reduce the wheelies, you could add some wheelbase or go down on the rear sprocket.

Dropped a zx14 1 inch front and back make sure your sliders does not have contact with your muffler if you drop it..

Geez, take it easy! I am loving the bike and all it's power. I have not been on a 14 with the flies removed and in my mind it would give you a more constant power then with the flies in. I am getting used to it slow but sure. Big problem is I don't have a lot of places to practice if you know what I mean. I guess I just don't have the stones I used to have.
Now come on my 14 brothers take it easy on me

I'm just saying that at stock wheelbase and gearing, it is going to wheelie in 1st. It's to be expected.

OK if you're serious then: The flies out (with a powercommander to remap the now-lean condition out) will give you ALOT more power. Not some, or a little, but ALOT more power. It will wheelie twice as easy, and spin the tire, too. Buy a smaller bike before you kill yourself. Seriously.

Where are you when you have the wheelie problems???...Street or DragRacing???
What gearing do you have???
What exhaust system is on your 14???

Be more discipline on that throttle and enjoy. You know that's how power wheelies are done but once again, its all in the wrist.

pulling the flies will give you total throttle control instead of the big whack at 6000. it will still come up if you want it to even easier but you will control it instead of the stupid computer.

my bike is WAAAAAAAAAAY more manageable with the flies removed. Before, i would have to launch out at 5500rpm, and then when it hit 6-7 grand it would stand straight up. Now i can leave out at a lower rpm and slide the clutch without it wheelying bad. I am a firm believer that for drag racing, the flies removed makes the bike easier to ride. HOWEVER comma... on the street, i can wheelie or spin on demand lol.

Take the flies out for drag racing. The wheelie will more manageable.
Sounds like your trying to race your bike or launch it.
The first year these bikes came out I watch a bunch of people flip these bikes over a stk wb
trying to race because a lot of people didn't know the 2nd set of flies opened at around 6k.
Thus throwing a ridiculous amount of power at you all of a sudden.
Take the Flies Out ...... With that said.
You still must be able to know how to manage the clutch and throttle ever so gently

a couple of you are saying that you can spin the tire in first gear. my bike NEVER spins the tire and i'm using a hard compound avon storm. plz explain yourself. i can get it to step out a little when ham fisting it coming out of a corner in 2nd, but if im going straight, the bike does not spin the tire.

^^^^ understandable, but sticks n stones bike is stock wheelbase and height, and hes talking about tires spinning.

Smokes it spins alot when launched aggressively..............whats your launch technique, if you slide the clutch through first then you wont get much spin..........I essentially toss the clutch between 4000-5000 RPMs and get lots of wheelspin sometimes..........it doesnt spin during normal riding though just when you toss the clutch during a launch.

Again, i'd like to hear your launch technique because I basically toss the clutch and am WOT almost immediately...................I dont have that much seat time but when i get a clean launch without lots of wheelspin or big wheelies i'm gone and its a pretty good launch............i'm gonna hit the track this fall and work on my consistency, i'm also going to try lowering the tire pressure. But i'm usually WOT REAL QUICK and i know thats a good thing.

ive gone 1.75 60ft on my avon storm. i know it can get much better but ive never had any wheelspin
