Oil change
New to the motorcycle world...sort of. I bought a 14 back last December. Changed the oil once at around 500 and need to do it again here at 1200. I have always believed in synthetic in all my cars and need some of your excellent input on what oil I should go with for my bike. I hit it hard here and there but nothing near what it could take. I just want piece of mind and wonder what you guys throw in the pan? First change was Castrol GTX 10/40 that a friend uses. I assume I'll only put another 400 or 500 on the toy till winter but don't want it to go too long.
Thanks in advance for the knowledge. It is much appreciated!

I always used the cheap stuff with my 12R because I did not know any better before I joined this website, but now I plan to use Motul 300V 15W-30. If you are on a budget a lot of people here say Shell Rotella T 5W-40 (Can buy @ Wal-Mart) works wonders.

+1 to jdzx14 you are opening a can of worms....all i can tell you is what i have done and noticed in the past. Have ran regular car oil in an old 500 street bike.....82 honda ascot, its not a performance bike, leaked oil around the rocker arm pins so cheap oil was good. Sill ride the bike, and still running car oil with no problems. Had a 600 suzuki always ran 10w-40 full synthetic ams oil and i did notice the clutch in that bike did not like that oil. seemed weak and clunked really bad going into 1st gear but i figured nature of the beast. Now with the 14 i ran kawi 10w-40 non synthetic for the first 1100 miles then after that i switched to kawi full synthetic and seems to be fine. I know the stuff is expensive but its just a piece of mind for me i guess. Warranty is out in another month and ill be due for an oil change by then so i would say as long as you stick to a good quality name brand full synthetic oil you probably cant go wrong. Everyone has the opinion. I might try some rotella next oil change and see how it works. Good luck

we need one more oil thread, and maybe another flies out thread followed by a tire thread
some folks opt to use the search tool, and even google will work for this forum
