Its Hot!!! Its Hot!!!
The bike is just about running hot. Yesturday, I took it out about 10 miles and the temp bars got all the way up to the last notch before hot. Being I just got the bike I decided to do some checking. The coolant in there was extremely deep green. Looked kinda funny so I flushed it out and put some fresh coolant in it. 50/50 mix.
Well took it out afterwards and guess what. same thing. And the kicker is that it was 70 sumthin outside.
What do I need to do next? I haven't heard of many thermostats going bad on these things but thats what I'm thinking of replacing next.
Also the cooling fan has a Muzzy aftermarket blade. What I don't know is if there is suppose to be a shroud around it. It has just the fan and thats it. Throws a lot of air but don't know if it is really pulling anything through the radiator.
Can anyone help?

I am curious, you got a TRE or "flies out"
mine RAN hot (past tense)...took that turd TRE off. Out with the flies and remapped.
TRE and "flies out" is WAY ASS LEAN in the 3000-4000 rpm range...
LEAN=HOT
Remap is a must. I think some (just some, not ALL) people may not know that.
Cool and smooth now.

I'd try the thermostat first.

Mine ran hot until I junked the OE exhaust and fitted a four-into-one. Lots of owners have found the same thing.

Just curious, do you have a radiator guard fitted? Reason I ask is that I've just gone through a process of creating my own guards, after fitting one that slowed the air down way too much. I noticed a temp increase of at least one bar as soon as I fitted it. Do a search on "ZX14 Stainless radiator guards" if you want to know more.

I drained the coolant and replaced it with water wetter and distilled water. Easy fix to much cooler running. You can also remove the "spats" from the front fender if you want more air over the radiator while moving. I might do that next summer but sure dont need it now. Mine has never gone over one bar from the center. Riding in 65 degrees it runs one bar below center.

Water wetter works well in warm weather. heh heh now say that 10 times fast.
Its a recurring theme on here about the high temps, apparently its just a gauge issue you can ignore it. Mine was always one bar from the top or AT the top until I broke it in. Even then it still ran 2 bars from the top until I put the Muzzy full exhuast on. Rarely gets up there any more, stays around the middle. Guys have used infrared thermometers to verify that some bikes have bad or overenthusiastic gauges.

Here are the mods: Muzzy full exhaust, flies out, ivan tre (just the timing retard one), pcIII, dropped, stretched, muzzy fan. ummmmmmm I think thats it.
Guess I'll try the water wetter, thermostat, and I guess I also need to remap the PCIII cause I bought the bike with all that stuff on it..
Now I just need the line the hooks to the PCIII from a computer. Are All of those the same? I may be able to borrow one.

I have an 07 stock ZX-14 and I roll through Nevada and Death Valley on my hottest runs. Ambient temps on one trip was 117 at Furnace Creek and the other was 122 at Badwater Basin. I have not experienced the overheating problem that many of you encounter, I do feel the heat coming off the engine. My temp gauge will go to the mark below the H but never has it gone to high temp, even in stop and go Vegas traffic this summer. I recently did have to add coolant to the bottle. I wonder what is different about my ride than others? Buddy of mine has an 07 like mine and he added a second fan. Never has had any problems either. One thread or article I read mentioned something about the pads underneath the plastics being positioned incorrectly and it contributed to overheating due to incorrect airflow. Something for others to check?

If you drain the coolant to add water and water wetter, BEWARE, it really comes shooting out the coolant drain plug. Instead of draining down slowly it shoots straight out towards the side.

Same here..my 14 will go to one bar below the H in hot weather and thats it. Has never overheated in triple digit temps sitting in traffic, and I've never had to add anything to it. Every kawi I've ever owned has used the whole range of the gauge..thats how they're designed. If you want a gauge that never goes over halfway get a busa. The bikes will both be running the same temps, but the busa gauge will make you feel alot better if you're the worrying type

Ive researched getting a second fan with brackets from a newer concours 14. They come with 2 fans. My dealer here was retarded that day so I got a "I dunno" as far as a firm price. Each piece had to be ordered separately. I also wondered about a shroud. Mine stays at one square above or below. Just like the speedo- Its just wrong... dont worry about it. Chew care-free gum when you ride?
Sticks...I had to go back to rubber baby buggy bumpers to get warmed up!

Just a note, when all the bars on the temp gauge are lit, you're still not actually overheating. If/when the bike gets too hot the display starts flashing OVERHEAT kind of like when you run the fuel level all the way down and it starts flashing that its out of fuel.

Top left of rad if looking at the bike from the front is at 238 degrees
Top right at 180
bottom right at 220
bottom left at 234
engine casing at head at 255
I don't have a manual but is that inline with what the running tempsshould be?

No, thats too hot. Radiator should be in the 205-215 range at the upper hose feed (rear brake side). Was your fan on? Sounds like you might have a bad thermostat...
But first, check with another at operating temp 14. Your heat gun might be off.

The fan was on and never turns off unless I'm at highway speeds and the notch goes to only one above half mark. Don't know anyone around here that has a 14. my friend stays in new orleans. seen a guy the other day with a 14. maybe I will run into him soon.
Thanks for the input
