Battery Issue
I had the compression bumped up and now having some issue with turning the bike over = seems to have difficulty turning the motor over - I believe the battery is ok - any reccommendations on a battery with increased capacity that would fit the 14?

That is a good question ...I'm thinking of bumping my compression also ...I read somewhere about a really high cranking amp battery for the zx14 ...Let me see if i can find it ..

Odyssey 530 is what one zx14 owner is using in his 2 mill motor... He said it fits with a little work ...

Before buying a new battery, put a volt meter on the battery. It should hold 10.5 volts or more while cranking. If it doesn't or starts there but falls off quickly, recharge and test again. If it still won't hold 10.5v+ then replace it.
If it is holding voltage while cranking then clean and tighten your ground cables. If still not cranking properly get a car jumper cable. Hook up to the ground side of the battery and the frame and try again. If still cranking slowly then hook jumper cable from battery to the engine. You are trying to isolate where the resistance is.
Unless you have REALLY kicked up the compression the stock battery/starter motor should crank the engine just fine.

a buddy of mine used to work in a place that custom built car starters and alternators. He routinely took customer starters and added winds for more power for high compression motors that had that problem. just an idea?

I agree .. it's a starter issue moe than battery .. the 14 bat is a good size ... and it's a matter of load via the starter and the ability of the start to convert current into HP or rotational torque ( sounds like good ol BS eh ? ) lol ..
anyhow .. something like that .. it's a 3 part system.. the motor is one .. the starter needs to be of a cirtain size to push the motor.. and the batery needs to release the current for the first to ta work their chit out ..
cold cranking amps .. get the biggest you want .. starter mods might be a bit tougher ..

Make sure that the battery that came in the bike is FTZ14 BS(14 ah). We have seen some 14's come with a FTX battery which was a 12ah & this is NOT sufficent especially if you have a few extra eletronics(power comm,Air compress for air shifter etc).
A VERY Good friend caught this on his about 1 year later & tried arguing to no avail. Either the dealer swapped it & kept the exspensive FTZ14 BS(14 ah) battery or it came that way.

Thanks guys - I will check this out - It is possible that there may be a grounding issue from salt...... may need to confirm solid connections.
