Is this normal?
Just bought a 14. Has a slight knocking sound down lower when blipping the throttle lightly. only blip up to about 3 grand and as it idles back down, I here a slight knock. Does that sound like a major problem brewing or is that normal. It has fresh oil change but I don't know what type is in there. Never really paid attention for that sound much on my friends bike.
Update: Rode it today and noticed the knock is better heard with my helmet on. Also it is more like a thud/lock,lock,lock sound on the lower left side of the engine. Can here it a around 1500-2000 pretty good. Low but I am a mechanic so I guess I am listening more closely. The problem is that I don't know if that is normal for this bike. I know the 08 Busas have a knocking sound around the clutch area when not in gear.
Also I also just plugged up the big hose going into the airbox, will it hurt anything? Do I need to remove the blockage?
Also what is the stock sprocket sizes?
any input?

Hate to say it but that could be a con rod bearing with to much clearance and rattling on the over run. Make sure that you have at least an oil of 10-40 viscosity.

That hose supplies fresh air to the exhaust system to burn off any unburned hydro carbons in the exhaust to reduce pollution. Plugging it should do no harm. It will also reduce the pop back/back fire on coast down.

Did you buy my red 06? LOL!
You have described EXACTLY what mine did - no need for me to repeat your facts. In my case, it did NOT make the noise when cold. It started when the heat guage hit the 3rd bar.
I reported the noise to the mechanics before I rode it off the lot so it would be on record. I put several thousand miles on it, going to redline in the gears more than once. It was on the dyno on 2 different occasions for several pulls. I never had any issues with the engine.
Before anyone mentions it, it was NOT the balancers. When they are too loose, the knocking is irregular, not the rythmic knocking that mine had like a piston slap or a rod knocking, but you kinda had to listen for it - it was not all that apparent.
There are many theories on 'the knock." Mine is that the noise is from a "normal" piston slap because of the skirt design and when clearances end up on the loose side.
My 08 has NO such noise. According to Kawasaki, the pistons were redesigned to "be quieter."

You only need two tools: WD-40 and Duct Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.
