06 Vs. 08 Part Throttle Dyno Comparison

I haven't been on this forum for awhile so I'm not sure if this has been posted. But it's interesting so I thought I'd post. The April 08 edition of Bike Magazine contained an interesing article on part throttle vs. full throttle dyno testing and they included graphs of the results for the 06 and 08 stock ZZR1400. I scanned the dyno results and discussion. Most street riders like myself spend our time at part throttle and the difference in the dyno for the two model years is amazing, particularly at 40% throttle. For those interested in the full article it is in the April 08 Bike Magazine, article name "The Biggest Myth in Motorcycling". The myth idea is built around the concept of "it ain't so much what you've got, it's how you're allowed to use it"; i.e., part power throttle tuning has a more significant impact on how a street rider can use his bike than the full power dyno tuning that is typically performed. At any rate, here's the link for the PDF file

I'm still enjoying my 06 with Brock's Streetsmart Gen 3, PC, and TRE006a. It's one of multiple bikes, plus I recently purchased an 08 Audi Ar, so I've only managed around 1500 miles on the 14 this year. Much less than average.

See ya.

pull the flies on an 06 pipe and tune it and do those charts again, it will be a different story.

Having owned both, I can tell you, there's not much difference, if any between the 2. Fly's out, they're the same. Also the article fails to mention that the 08 opens the fly's much sooner, resulting in 100% the gains that you see on the graph --

IMO, it has nothing to do with the mumbo jumbo on the exhaust ports/downpipes and the rest of the bullshit they talk about, because if it did, a full exhaust change would have more impact on performance vs the 06, which IT DOES NOT. As was said, removing the flies and changing the exhaust and mapping will get the 06 and the 08 exactly the same. I know this from 1st hand experience. Same mods on both bikes gets the same end result within 1% or so.
