Frame Sliders
I just purchased and installed some frame sliders on my 14. Can those of you that have them give me the measurement from fairing to end of slider. I have only seen these in photos and was quite surprised when mine stuck out 3". Your input would be greatly appreciated.

The more it sticks out the more protection the lower faring will have. Also if you are into long distances it is a great place to flop your leg (ankle) over from time to time to ease the cramping in your legs. I actually added about 1/2" of flat washers behind mine to gain a bit more protection.

Has anyone else heard of frame sliders actually breaking frames on 14's? I've thought about taking mine off a few times, but would hate to crash the bike and them not total it for me lmfao.

Yes if you hit a curb or something protruding from the ground there is a chance of it happening.

They are attached to the motor/head and a bracket that comes off the frame.

I have a concern about them causing damage as well. Just looking at the length of them, that is a lot of leverage...
I'd be interested in hearing from people who have "road tested" them!

Not me....every situation/accident will have it's own varibles. If the speed is excessive, your chances of both you and the bike coming away unscaved will be rare. However, I count on the frame sliders being advantageous if the bike is pushed over, my foot slips while trying to balance, or if you catch some gravel while cornering and slide(moderate/low speed). Better yet Shane it might be cool to hear if the frame sliders protect even further.... Yeah that could be interesting

Interesting points. I've just fitted some of the bracket type (Tuner-X Factory) and thought about having a few holes machined in the brackets, to decrease their strength. Without testing, and given the numerious variables of a fall it's hard to say at what point they'd do more harm than good, or no good at all.

There was a slider thread from earlier this year that might answer your question, Bawls.

Main thing you need to do is find a slider that will take the energy from the road by wearing down as it slides or find one with an integrated shock absorber like Metisse sliders.

mine poped the frame ... saved the plastics to the point I have "experience scars" now ...
kinda makes it a bit meaner to look at ...
but I don't know what to do about the frame .. prolly nothing ...
mirror was worn down on the corner. .. and rear signal worn as well .. every part in the middle minor scratch ..
when it tipped in the parking lot ?? smashed mirror .. massic brusing on the GF's helmut .. and the slider took the rest .. seemed worse since I was forced to replace the mirror .. road crach was cheaper .. one peg ..

be careful with the "superstrong" "aircraft quality bolt" frame sliders. Warning!
They will hold up so well, they will cause your FRAME to break instead of the slider itself 
Or you will go down and the slider will save the fairings but destroy the tab the bolt is screwed into on the frame

The frame slider saving anything is a myth. If it is dropped sitting still in a parking lot the sliders may help save a few items, but if you are moving at any speed the sliders will
not help anything but can make things much worse. Scratching a little plastic is a bummer but cracking the frame is a whole nother story. Think about it, a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. The slider is attached to a narrow peice of aluminum with thin edges. As another member mentioned the bolts are a lot stronger than the aluminum tab on the frame. The frame will crack when the slider hits the ground-been there done that. Sliders are one of those things that seem like a good idea, until it is too late and you realize that it is mounted to a weak, thin peice of aluminum and have a cracked frame. I think they look cool/good, but they can definately cause more damage than they can save

one thing to keep in mind with frame sliders is to get good ones that have a bracket that mount at 2 points dissipating energy during a crash rather than one bold bending and ripping out of the frame

I crashed my bike yesterday. The frame sliders worked well. The bike slid about 15 feet mostly on the frame slider. I slid 10 feet mostly on my arm and helmet. It was a low speed crash, about 20mph. I was scared that my frame or engine would be broken but all was well. This is the second time the bike went down with the frame sliders. The first time the bike was not moving. It got kncked off its kick stand when parked on a hill. It faired way worse on that one. I got the upper and middle fairings the mirror and the $85.00 slider. I am not going to put them back on this time

After seeing broken frames AND engines from using the one bolt plastic units, I went with LSL,s "crash Bars". They have a bracket that mounts to 2 points and it appears that this bracket will snap before the the bike parts will. I do track days will my 14 and this was my main concern. They will help on a lowslide at lower speeds and protect much in a street scene tipover. Nothing helps with high speed get offs (the bike ends up tumbling usually)
Otherwise I dont think the urethane pegs are worth bothering with ON THE 14s.
Urethane pegs did the job on my "track only" 600 during a 120 mph get off( I, on the other hand,was very busted up). They also really helped my riding partners 650R track bike during a 100+ low side. They actually saved his fairing and trapped ankle. B ut they mount differently on those 2 units then how they are on our 14s.

Sold the track bike because I haven't had time to do the CCS races in forever, the R1 I can tape the lights and do track days.
Oh I've nothing against the ZX10. The reason I got an R1 is only because I've never owned a Yamaha. I've owned ZX_aboutEverything, GSX's, Honda's, just never been a fan of Yamaha. Figured I'd own one just to have owned one.
Moreso than HP, Its suspension and rider skills that decrease my lap time (as any of us thats been on the track knows).
And I hope Kawasaki will takes that badazz ZX10 across the checkered flag first in AMA or world superbike soon.
For an every day street bike with a few upcoming tracks days, I've enjoyed the Yamaha more then I ever thought I'd like one.

I looked on the Metisse website...didn't see one specific for the 14. Did you use the universal ones instead?
I got the information by calling the company number. The 14 sliders are not listed on their website and I forgot to copy down the model number, but I know for certain that they are $200 with shipping anywhere in the US. They look like decent pieces.

Hello everybody,
haven't been here in a while and when I return I see talk of framesliders.
Thanks Ninja Knight for finding old thread on my frameslider experience.
All I can say is I have an 08 14 now to replace the 07. I still own the set of framesliders I took off the wrecked 07. They are in my garage in a box.
