First Clean Passes on the 14...Wow (Video) I finally got the 14 back together and took it up to MIR. Racheal brought along her Gixxer as well. I got most of the teething issues squared, and the bike performed great all day. It needs fine tuning and some more setup, but it really impressed me today!
Before today, my personal best in the 1/4 mile was 9.96 on Racheal's bike. I had not been able to make a clean pass on the 14 yet. I suspected it might move my weight better than the 1000 (I am 230 pounds suited). Well, I was right!
I ended up running around 4 9.59's, and I had a string of runs (6, I think) all between 9.59 and 9.61. I also set a new personal best 1/8th, 330, and 60 foot. I was tired at the end of the day and having trouble hitting the 1-2 shift, but I ran two 1.52's.
Here is a 9.59 pass:
That is at 63.5" with +2 gearing.
I have a bit of setup and tuning to do. The data logger told me the bike was pretty rich up top, and I need to address that...among other things. But I couldn't be happier with the bike's first real runs!
Shane
PS. Not to be outdone, Racheal managed a 9.54 on her 1k....it's getting competitive around here!

I can't really compare them fairly since the setup was so different. MPH was close to the same under similar conditions...but I haven't gotten the 14 mapped 100% yet. Also the 12 had velocity stacks and the engine was well broken in, unlike the 14.
I can say that the lower rpm grunt of the 14 is much more...but that is a given.
The 12 was running at stock wheelbase, -1 and +1 gearing. The 14 is at 63.5" with +2 gearing and I am about 30 lbs. lighter than last year. I had well over 100 1/4 mile passes on the 12, and I have about 20 on the 14. But it only took me 5 clean passes to get a 9.61 on the 14...it took me over a hundred to get 10.16 on the 12. The setups make it hard to compare.
Crotchrocket could give you a good comparison of the bikes, he has ridden both with similar setups.

Shane when you get the 14 dialed in is there going to be a grudge match between you and shiphteey?? Any way those are good numbers.

We've been talking about some heads-up runs. I think he needs to get his bike dialed-in this year too. I think his best on the 12 is 9.40, and I'm sure he is looking to improve on that...

Shane- Good vid.....I haven't race on a track yet but look forward to the day I can go all out without having to think of the PoPo or some crazy pulling out in front of me. I've kept up with your mods and it's cool to see the final/simi-final product produce! Keep wacking the throttle and some of us will live vicariously thru you until the time comes.
