ZX-14 Lowering Clearance Issues?

I just lowered the bike about 1.75" in the rear. I am concerned about the clearance here:

It looks like that plastic under the tank will smack the swingarm when I launch the bike. Has anyone had any issues with this? I really wanted to go a little lower, but I'm apprehensive.

Shane

I had the same concern but it has not been a problem. I have the Muzzys lowering links and I race the bike on the 3rd hole which is 2.5" I believe. I am 205 lbs suited and at stock wheelbase with a 1.64 60ft it never hit. I am currently extended to 63 inches and I have found that it slightly touches the swingarm when I launch, but it has not done any damage. The bigger problem I am having is my rear tire slightly rubs on my undertail where my licence plate bracket bolts on. Its a good thing Muzzy makes their bracket out of thick aluminum because I have already rubbed off a couple thousandths, lol. My 60 foots are in the high 1.40's extended.

Mines down 3 inches and yes it hits but it causes no problems... It does rub a little paint off the swing arm but i don't mind...

I had my 14 on the lowest hole and draged the header in a turn and that was the last time i had it that low. Now it sits on the middle hole. Photobucket

Middle hole for me....

the lowest setting on the Muzzy's links was too low. I could bottom it out just sitting on the bike and bouncing slightly. With them on the middle hole, I have to jump up and down really hard on the bike to get it to bottom out. If I get it to bounce like that while I am riding, chances are I have already left the road......

Shane while you have the bike apart give the shock about 3 turns on the pre-load,
helped out a bit on my 60ft. bike didn't squat as hard and it went foward harder.

I have the Naarden adj. lowering links and most times rub the inner fender before it hits the fuel pump for me, I'm about 250 dressed out. had it at 64" and stk wb both rubbed inner fender at different spots.

Hope that helps out.

How low are you sitting? I think I'm going to be at about 63", based on some logistics of my setup.

When I do run mine lowered I use the middle hole (Muzzy Links) and the front lowered 1 1/4". I also crank the compression up some as well as spring preload front and rear. I haven't any problems so far. I go around 200 lbs fully loaded with gear. I don't like the adjustable kickstand that much at the stock height it flex's a little to much for my taste.

Shane +1 on what Halvefast said about turning the shock spring colar, but turn it 2 turns clockwise!!! dont worry about the fuel pump cover, the tire will hit the undertail before the swingarm and fuel pump meet...

2 1/2 and you'll be good...

If your going to be 63inches then put the 43 tooth sprocket on it !!!
