Running bike related errands today.
Finally picked up a bike lift, for $300, from Harbor Freight:

Tomorrow I will install a decent wheel chock. This lift should make things a lot easier on my bad back! I need to preserve my back for tucking in at speed!
I also made it by the post office to pick up the 48mm throttle bodies. This pic compares them to a stock set:

Once I pull the trigger on an exhaust system I will have the basics of what I need to get the motor going when it is installed. I'm still doing some investigation on that end of things.

That would be a sleeper, for sure...but I'd definitely have to paint the block.

What kind of improvements do you think those throttle bodies would make on a Stock motor ?
Also, I thought I read that the guys had tried the ZX12 TBs on the 14 with little improvements.
Any thoughts ?
I looked for that lift on Flee Bay awhile back but all I could find was guys selling coupons for 12 bucks for the discount. Shane did you buy it direct from them ? Maybe a link .

I bought an American Iron magazine for $6 in order to get the coupon...and I went to the local Harbor Freight store to pick it up. You can get up to 3 of them on the one coupon.
Stock Busa and 12R TB's are 46mm...stock 14's are 44. I believe they do help on top, but that is just my gut feeling based on the way Racheal's runs (hers has 47's) vs. what my stock motor ran like with the 44's. Our dyno #'s were near identical...but my bike was lower miles (2000) and a non o-ring chain. Hers was 8500 miles, original chain, plugs, etc.. I think you may see some gain on the road/track that cannot be measured on the dyno. Her bike is simply faster than mine was...and it weighs a little more too.
Both bikes made around 185 hp sae on MR9 on the same dyno...

The 47mm throttle bodies pick up 6-8 hp on a stock engine. Larger displacement motors are picking up more.
Dan, (old kawboy) picked up 7-8 on a stock engine. You can see his results on one of these threads.
We have sold many, many sets of these TB's and the results are all very similar.

Do you have them in stock ?
I am curious, why 47 MM and not to the 48 MM like Shane has shown above.

How much do you think the lift weights? Just wondering how many LBs it would add to a Motorcycle trailer.

We dont have any right now. They are done in batches of 6 and are all usually all spoken for by the time the batch is done.
The 48's are quite thin. They make me a little nervous. There are a few guys running them on some bigger motors but I dont have any real solid data on them vs the 47's yet.
I think they really need a different velocity stack with more taper to be most effective.
The 50mm billet throttle bodies on our LSR bike have quite a bit more taper and are a different length.

Glad I could help! I haven't made any progress with the 14; time, money and other concerns have dictated that I spend time working on my 12R:

The 12R does have some hand-me-down's from the 14...I am fitting a 14 shock and swingarm (more complicated than you might think). It is also still sporting the Area P muffler that I had made for my 14 way back when. I think a few more 14 parts will be finding their way to the bike soon.
I'm really anxious to get back to riding my own bike at the dragstrip, and the 12R is my ticket there. I think I will have some time to spend on the 14 next week, but it's going to be a LSR only bike for now.

Shane,
I am new here but have lurked around for a LONG time. I have decided to go from the swing arm extensions to an extended swing arm. I like the Idea of the triangulated extended stock arm from Spencer. However just a 3-9" over I really cant see paying the extra for the bracing. Which brings me to my question, If you were to do it again and if it were a drag only bike, would you pony up the extra dough for bracing?
I am also considering a standard length, cuz how often do you really change from 3" to 9"... I was thinking possibly 7-9"... It would be stronger and that is the range I would run 99% of the time. Whats your thoughts
Also, This thread is great! I know it must have been a pain to keep up the updates and take pictures!

If I were to do it again, I would still get the bracing. It's really more of a personal preference thing. The arm should be plenty strong without it; even good bolt-on extensions are plenty strong. In my case I wanted an arm that could hold straight with a lot of hp if I ever put a turbo on the bike; plus I just like the bracing.
I don't see any advantage to getting a fixed length? It's not any cheaper as far as I can tell? The strength is really not going to be an issue, imo. I changed my wheelbase and gearing a whole lot, going from dragstrip to LSR, so adjustable made sense for me.

Hi Shane, hope i'm not intruding on your thread, apologies for that. have been troubled with this one issue ever since I bought the 2007 Euro version ZZR1400. Issue is that i do all my Shopping from USA, but when it comes to mapping for the setup I dont get the maps from any euro dealer, the euro ecu seems to be different & maps dont work on my 14. Do you have anyone you could forward me to get this issue taken care off once & for all??? where i am, there are no dynos, so i'm running on the standard maps put up o the dynojet site
Please help.

I don't think anyone here could provide you an ideal map for your ecu and setup...too many variables to account for. I would consider getting a little data logger, like a Wego or similar. Then you can adjust your base map to optimize it for your setup and geography.
