Shane,

I've been reading your post for about three days now and all I can say is thanks! I bought a 2010 14 two weeks ago and I have yet to loosen a screw. With all of your photos and discussion I feel as though I have already tore my bike down and rebuilt it. Actually, it was the easiest work I've done. Can't wait to finish reading it all!

The motor should be done within a few weeks. But it could be another month after that before I have the money to get it running. I have to get my TB's bored, clutch parts, and an exhaust.

I wish I could have moved the project along more quickly, but money issues have held it back.

Believe it or not, I do the same. I can't remember half of what I did, or how I did it.

Well, I made it up to NJ and dropped off the cylinder head to Steve last week. Right now we are looking about 2 weeks until the motor is done.

As promised, I snapped some pics of the engine pieces. You can see the epoxy work that Adams did to the cases, along with blocking off the oil squirters. In the last pic you can see the condition of my main bearings after at least 500 quarter mile passes, and maybe 75 miles at WOT for LSR. Using good oil and changing it frequently pays off. Probably the last 5+ changes were made using Amsoil, and the first 10+ were made using Honda branded 10/40 Dino oil. Total miles were around 2500.

I am really swamped with work and projects right now, but I would like to have it in the bike and on the dyno by early June. It will be nice to move forward with the build.

Looking good Shane!!

I recommend honing the rod bushings to .0013"-.0015". the pistons can stay at .001"

We have seen the rod bushings rotate in the Carrillo rods on high HP nitrous motors when the squirters are blocked off. Once the rod bushing rotates it closes off the oil to the pin and major problems start to happen.

Jim do you think it would be better to reduce the squirter jet size rather than blocking the supply ?

Very nice work getting done there Shane

Shane,
How much did you shave off the head? What compression ratio do you think it gives with stock pistons?I installed my Brock pipe and Pipercross racefilter about 8 weeks ago.The bike is still in the garage with the bodywork still off.Funny thing what a tornado can do to your garage door.I was trapped for two hours inside until I got the bottom panel off and I cralled out.Lowes is coming next week to install a new garage door.Probably could get my head ported and cams for what they want for the door. Can't wait to try my pipe and filter out.Allready got Brocks map in it.I guess what I was asking if I got a stage 2 Port job, mild cams and milled head if it would work for the street.

The head for my big motor is not appropriate for a stock motor. I had a Stage 2 head done for stock pistons/cams. That head has .030 shaved from it, and should be good for 13:1 compression or so.

I wouldn't bother with the cams for the street. The valve reliefs in the stock pistons are relatively shallow, and would not be good for aftermarket cams. I would just get a ported head, and mill it down some.

That's an option. But the stock motors are very tight in several areas and should be loosened up.

What works on a production engine designed to go 100,000 miles and a race engine putting out 50% - 100% more power than the production engine are two different things.

I actually have two projects going on right now:

The far bike is my 1287cc 12R. Now that the motor for the 14 is almost done, I will be working on both at the same time. Shouldn't be too hard to keep busy in the garage.

wow, and I thought my room was messy, Reminds me of about 10 years ago when me and a buddy lived in a 2 bedroom ground floor apartment. We both had 95 CBR 900's and they both were blown apart in the living room and kitchen, lol.

Hmmm...I guess I am just used to having a lot of things torn apart, because it doesn't look that messy to me.

Some more pics from Steve, during the assembly process:

It's looking like an engine now:

One thing I really appreciate is that Steve keeps me in the loop. In fact, he sent me the above pics to my cell as he was building the engine! When you are spending money, it is nice to see where it is going...

He has sent me a lot more photos than I have posted, of both parts and assembly/disassembly. I just picked the ones that I thought might be of interest here. Maybe I'll post some more later.

Anyway, things are looking really good at this point.
