my tips. not in any order, but these may help.
drain oil,
drain coolant, put shop air in to the hose and blow it all out the other end too, helps with cleanup. cover up both of those. remove radiator, and shroud up top.
me personally, dont remove the Throttle bodies, just loosen them up on the motor side. you can install and remove the engine with throttle bodies and fuel all in place.
dont forget the ground wire in the rear center of the case, also starter connections too.
____________
b.w.
zx14, little longer, little louder, little lower.
08 Busa, just a little longer and louder and lower than the 14

Yeah, now that I think about it, I just loosened the TB's...but pulled them out when I dropped the motor down. I needed them out anyway.
Also, having a flat oil pan makes things easier too.

Google zx14 build and you are #1, Shane. Google zx14 wheels, BST, or probably quite a few other things and you are front page news.

Just some general info on the new setup:
Engine Builder: Steve Knecum
Displacement: 1534cc's
Compression: 14.5:1+
Cylinder Head: Competition CNC Stage 2 Port, O/S valves, Hayabusa buckets
Cams: Above .410 lift on intake and exhaust
Throttle Bodies: 47MM
Rods: Carrillo
Transmission: R&D Pro Cut
Crank: +5mm stroke by Marine Crank
Target HP: 245+ SAE
Target Bike Weight: 440 lbs, race ready
Anyway, at this point it is a waiting game. Case and pistons go out to Millenium on Tuesday. Crank is about 4 weeks or so from completion. Hayabusa buckets out to Competition CNC on Monday (they have the head already). Cams are done.

That's the goal.
I hope I can get it set up in time for a July LSR event in Loring, ME. I am having to pace the build according to finances. Fingers crossed.

Are you making it to Maxton any this year? I would like to go and spectate once before I actually run down there, since I am in Maryland now the trip will be a little easier.

Yes, I am going to go to Maxton at least once. I will also be at MIR frequently, although not with this bike. Racheal has a 14 to take to MIR, and I will likely ride a built 12R to keep my "skills" fresh.
I might go to Maxton in May or June, even if I just take a 12R....

So you are not going to drag it with the new motor?
And let me know when you head out to MIR, I am only a little over 20 miles away, and I will be out there often this year. I have to take advantage of my shore duty.

I will run it in the quarter at some point...but it is not high on my list of priorities this season.

Damn Shane that thing should definately be a Monster!!!..........any estimate when it should be up and running April?
Will that have a higher power peak/RPM range with that cam timing........you should have nasty mean low end with 1534 CC's...........how much wheelbase you planning on giving that beast?
Cant wait for the results!!!!!!

The cams are higher lift and longer duration than oem. This will let the engine breath even at elevated rpm, even with the much larger displacement. I won't know how high it carries the power until the bike is tuned on the dyno. Everything has to work as a package, and there will be some trial and error, I'm sure. But the basics will be the big cams, oversized valves, CNC port, and +3mm throttle bodies.
As for wheelbase, I will be using the swingarm that I have already, purchased about two years ago. It's a braced and extended stock arm from Spencer Cycle. It can go to about 65".

Since the bike is slated for LSR use this year, I may end up bringing the wheelbase in a little. I am going to be spending some time setting up, and cleaning up the chassis prior to installing the engine.
It would be nice to start tuning it by April. It all depends on how quickly the parts come in.

The new pistons came in, and Steve sent me some pics:

These are +2mm, 2-ring, and for a +5mm stroke. They will yield a static compression of around 14.5 - 15:1. As you can see, they are made by CP. They were purchased through Carpenter Racing.

Very nice! CP makes nice pistons! Anxiously waiting to see how this project turns out. My project is going slow so I need other stuff to look at..... it gives me inspiration.
