does that catalyst seat come with the brackets to latch it down to the bike? or would i need to transfer or buy another set from kawi??

The seat is held down by two bolts. The seat latch is no longer used. You must remove the two bolts in order to remove the seat.

Also I believe I read on the website that "additional" bracing may be required where the riders rump goes so it doesn't crack. Did you add anything extra?

Picking your feet up too early with cause unsettle the bike, making it unconsistant (especailly bad for us bracket guys). I pick mine after the 1-2 shift, which is right at the 60ft mark.

And you know what's funny is I don't even pay attention to my technique since I've mainly been racing my R6. And I have no "good" videos

I'm keeping it. I just had the new motor installed; it pulls much harder than my 14. I'm hoping to take it to the track a few times next year; it is more suited for LSR.

You can get them from Maryland Metrics. It is a DIN 908.

I have a bunch of them. I'll only sell them in pairs, $10 shipped, including paypal.

Someone was giving them away awhile back though, and you can get them in bulk from a bolt store. I'm not claiming the cheapest prices in town!

What size is that drain pan bolt? And thanks for all the great information in this thread, it really saves us new guys a lot of trial and error

I have about a half a dozen I am giving away. 12X1.5X16 or 12X1.5X20. These are flush mount hex head set screws that I use with red loctite to hold securely . Just send me an address and I will send you one. The idea is to have two inches of ground clearance on the oil pan, header, and shock linkage on a street bike so as to not push the drain plug through the oil pan if you wheelie and come down hard on the street or at the track.

I had heard of two means of using this plug: loctite and teflon tape. Presumably the tape would seal and make the fit snug so that the plug would not back out. The loctite I assume would seal and then hold the plug from loosening. The plug does not seat on anything, so it will not tighten without some sort of additional means.

The tape provided a slighly snug fit. One that I may trust for one 1/4 mile pass at best. After backing the plug out, it leaves all of the tape in the pan...to be sucked up by the pick up. Here is what was left inside the pan after 3 times in with fresh tape:



I didn't bother with the loctite; I know I would not trust that. There is no preload whatsoever on the plug when installed.

I'll either be trying a different plug, with a head that seats...or taking this pan to the machine shop.




I wasn't too happy with that setup. I'm sure it can be made to work, but I sure didn't like it. Using the red loctite at the track when changing the oil doesn't seem reliable (hard to clean the threads when oil is still draining out). Plus, as I say, no preload on the threads at all.

I just want to ask you about your mapping with the 3rRacing set up on your header pipe. I like the looks alot since I can't afford the sidewinder right now. Did you have to fatten the fuel up a whole bunch? I also weighed my muzzy stainless oval canister at 9 pounds. That's a plus already, just to lose that weight. Just looking for an idea to stay out of a lean condition. Thanks

It actually was pretty close on the mapping at full throttle. The biggest drawback is that the low rpm power was not smooth. I would really suggest that you get a cheap data logger. The M14 already has an 02 bung in it, and you can get a logger for under $300.

Did you already sell the autotune? If not, use it to dial the bike in!

Auto tune is still on the bike. One loud ride for 30 mins in cruising range, hooked the computer to it and accepted trims and it actually trimmed more cells than it ever did, so I should be safe. It's a good product for the street. It's just not quick enough for top end on a 9 sec pass. glad to hear your top end was close. I'll try fattening 2% at full throttle just to be safe since it mostly fattened a % or 2 down low in some cells. The 50* temp had a lot to do with it anyway. Thanks

Damn man that was like reading a book. I read all 58 pages over the last few hours. That is one sweet ride. From now on whenever my wife starts bitching about me spending money on my bike I'll let her read this thread. That's crazy shit weighing every piece and all. Not a bad crazy. Glad you liked it. I have some more changes in store for this coming season. I'm after better performance #'s this year.

It was very well put together. Better than alot of motorcycle mags. How's the weight loss coming along? I couldn't tell you anything about bikes but I live a very healthy lifestyle and stay in great shape. It's about being consistent. You might have some bad days but the key is to limit the bad days. That 211 mph run must of been bad ass.

Thanks. I've learned a lot along the way, and made a few mistakes here and there.

The weight loss has just not been happening. I am back up to the same weight that I was last winter. I am trying to get focused now.

The 211 run was great. In fact, I did two 211 mph passes back-to-back. Just like with the fitness, consistency is key in racing.
