quote:One thing I need to look into is how to keep the tire from spinning on the rim. The BST is slick. I was running 18 psi, and then increased it to 24. It still moved about 2" or so within 2 passes.
I was very careful to clean up the bead before I inflated the tire. I had heard this might be a concern, and it is.

use a cheap hairspray ? push the tire down at the rim - use hairspray and put air the tire
the hairspray will hold your tire a little more !

I'd also have to get a hold of some MR9, and the nearest seller is 2 hours from me.
My prior best at Maxton is 193.85, which I ran in June. I've gained 10 lbs. since then, and believe it or not that will cost me some speed. On the plus side I would be likely to see some cooler temps. I may just play it by ear and watch the weather...no sense in going unless I am going to top 195 mph. I'd say that 200 is quite out of reach, however. I'm just too heavy right now.
Normally I would make the changes and go...but I am so close to the 8's in the 1/4 mile right now that I hate to shift my focus. Plus, it does get a little tiring reconfiguring the bike all of the time.

Things are not looking good for Maxton. I have been home ill since yesterday, and running a fever. Someone at work was actually sent home last week because they had The Swine Flu. Hopefully I will have a little more luck than that!
At any rate, after talking with Kerry at Area P, it is going to be a little while before I can get the CT system set up on the bike. I need to have some custom welding done, among other things. So, I ordered a fresh #3,4 header section for my standard Brock header:
After test-fitting it, I snapped a picture so that I could compare clearance all three of the exhausts I have been through.
Brock's Shortmeg:
Muzzy M14:
Brock's CT:
The standard Brock's has the least clearance. The M14 and CT look to be close at the lowest points, but overall the CT is tucked in tighter with fewer low points to hit. The M14 seems to have longer primary tubes in order to gain clearance (you have to space the radiator out). I suspect this will alter it's power characteristics as compared to the Brock's. I have been happy with both my M14 and my Shortmeg, and I'm sure the CT will serve me well.

Hey Shane, Today I removed some weight from my bike and I was wondering about the rear frame supports in the passenger area. I see that you may have them back on. I'm assuming that you just needed a frame mount. Hoping for my weight at 155 that I'll be good to go for just drag racing. Forgive me if I missed it in any of your previous post. Your bike is looking good. Keep up the great work.. Thanks

I only have one frame support mounted. It is for my shock reservoir. I will be removing the support this winter when I have a longer supply line installed on the shock.

Shane, i was reading on pb, and richies tires posted these weights for the p1.
The weight on the Power Ones for
160-60-17....10.2
180-55-17.....11.5
190-50-17.....12.2
190-55-17......12.9
I thought you might be interested in this as many are running the 180/55s on the zx14 (myself included). It is a little taller (as you know), so I don't know if not being able to lower the bike as much would hurt you more then losing a little weight off the tire.

Interesting; 11.5 lbs. is pretty light!
It's not a big issue setting it up for the 180, but it does require some adjustment for my setup. I have a Power Race 180/55/17 here; it is heavier than 11.5 lbs.

I'm hoping to get one more day at the track before it closes. Until then, here is a comparison of the bike's ET performance, almost exactly one year apart:
3 tenths of ET is pretty good....and 7 mph in the 1/8th. 4 mph in the 1/4 on this pass...but I have run as high as 154.74 this year; last year I never cracked 150 mph. I would attribute .15 of ET to the weight loss, and .10 to the MR9. I don't know that the mechanics of my riding have really improved much...but probably only .05 is due to my riding.
Here's hoping I get one more track day this season to get that 8 second ET!

quote:Looks Great Shane. Did you ever find a cure for the BST rear wheel and tire sliping?
Louis
I am getting ready to mount a new tire in the next week, and I am going to use some tire prep that Brock suggested. If that doesn't do it, I will treat the rim this winter. I don't think it is costing me much ET or mph, but you never know...
Say, Louis, does that Muzzy up there look familiar?

Glad I purchased the M14 and your stock rims. That Carbon tail pipe looks trick.
Looking for a M10 tail but so expensive new for what improvment?? Would either

one make that much more HP for my street bike?
I don't think it will be a huge change with either, but possibly a few hp if mapped properly.

I would be willing to bet that there is very little benefit, and surely not felt by the seat of the pants from the m10 muffler. However, it sounds incredibly good!

So...a track day approaches. And guess what? I have no muffler for my CT header...nor the money to buy one. I have heard from several sources that most of the power is in the header. So, I figured I could run it without a muffler. I installed the header, and the exhaust looked like this:
Starting it up, it produced exactly the raspy sound I expected. Even though I am going to put the bike on the dyno, I just couldn't stand that buzzing straight-cut exhaust outlet. Then I asked myself the question: "How can you address this problem while spending under $20?"
Voila!:
That's right, baby!! The $15 Auto Zone exhaust tip!
I went with a high performance model, by "3R Racing":
These guys drove the old "2R Racing" out of business!! Since the whole header weighs about 4.5 lbs. installed, I wanted to make sure that this trick new piece wasn't too heavy:
As expected, 3R Racing didn't disappoint!! 9 oz!!
Freshly installed, and ready to rock:
The perfect compliment for the Ti header and Carbon rims!!:
But, I know what you are all saying: "Sure, it's trick as hell...but how does it sound?"
Well, I'm glad you asked!:
Later this week, I'm off to the dyno...wish me luck!!
Shane
PS. I think I will be marketing these Warp12 Racing Exhaust tips for $399 each...the market is definitely out there!
