Thanks Shane - precisely what I was looking for - great achievement at Loren.... you should be proud.... although I know you are always low key on your achievements - but that was big time..... BTW - I also sealed with the metal door - I also had the air box sealed trying to get more ram air affect - you may want to think about it. I agree that those data loggers are a pain - I have not been tracking myself - but I will probably need to as I will track tune following the dyno tune that is getting done this week.

Thanks for the encouraging words, Kevin. I think that for me, the "Holy Grail" would be 200 mph at Maxton, on stock motor. Yes, Brock's bike with Chad on it did run the number. But, to my knowledge, no other stock motor 14 has done it. There are a couple that have come very close. I have some aero challenges to overcome (due to my size), and I have been reluctant to make the bike strictly race (read: ugly).
I am looking into a number of things regarding intake air flow and pressurization, but it may become more of a winter project.
I'm not sure if I can afford to race at Maxton again this year, but I sure would like to. Loring really drained our financial resources.

Just a thought on Rachaels spill.
Wouldn't Brock be about one of the best for any Busa high speed lockup's.
As another poster mentioned it might have been the brakes. Not that Brock has had any lockups (guess he would have posted anythign like that), but in his game he might heard about it before..
Just a thought anyway.

I do not believe that the brakes, wheels, tires, etc. contributed to this crash. We know the front wheel locked up during braking from the run. We also know that the tire let go on a "tar snake". There are some other factors at play, but mechanical failure does not seem to be one of them.

Shane,
What are your conclusions regarding the battery - has it worked out for you - does it performs similar to the stock battery with regards to cranking, ability to charge and its capacity to work continuosly under racing (both LSr and Drag) conditions? Also - what are your conclusions with the exhaust - has it performed to your expectations - any conclusion on performance as compared to the bbrock cans?

As far as I can tell, there is no performance compromise with the battery. I have started the bike 30+ times in a weekend, with few miles, and no discharge issues. It has performed flawlessly under all racing conditions, and during the short (80 miles or less) street rides I have taken.
Regarding the exhaust, power from the header has been excellent. The Area P muffler has performed flawlessly. I can't compare it's power to the Shortmeg can, since I haven't done any back-to-back testing. But, obviously it is making very good power in conjuction with the Brock header. The set up of my baffle is less restrictive than the Brock part; but I imagine any gains would be small. It is also holding up fine to the demands of racing, and extended high heat operation. It also sounds fantastic and gets a lot of compliments at the track. And your boot won't melt to it!
I also plan to test the Brock muffler without a baffle. That is about the lightest and perhaps least restrictive setup that I have access to.

SO you are using the SBK model - on the battery - correct - $250, I am thinking about it or the next size up.... I am assuming that you are not charging between races - is that correct. I like the profile on the muffler - your feet are tucked in nicely and not up against the muffler. I melted two pair of boots at Bonneville - five mile full throttle gets them hot. I currently have the SMEG mounted lower - using the short meg mid pipe. I can now get my feet in - but your setup looks even better, I was going to flip with the short meg and see if I net any gains - but still need to get it mounted lower to be able to get my heel all the way in. Dyno numbers looked good for me on the stacks - short derses long - but still need to confirm the gain at the track - but appears to be about 5 ft lbs from 7500 through 11000 - that should net to 2 MPH - so I need to get to the track to know for sure.

Yes, I'm using the $250 model. I have not charged it at all since installing it.

Shane
I have had several of these out there for some time.
I have only heard of one being an issue, and I think it was discharged mistakenly before installation or was not charged initially.
Otherwise I have not heard of any problems.
I have the 12 cell installed on my Vmax which has been used through many carburator tuning and synchronizing sessions, vboost mods included, with as many as 40- 50 starts at a time, only idle and the odd rev, and zero miles while parked on my lift.
Basically 40-50 discharges, idling, and zero miles or revs high enough to chrage the battery.
I have also ran the bike for 1500 miles, street and highway without issue.
I will post pics and weight measurmenst to compare, but put it this way, the Vmax battery is 3 -4 times the size of the Speedcell that replaced it.
I also have the 4 cell battery installed in the KTM 505 which is an electric start only dirtbike.
Many many hot starts, not hot start button, cold hard starts, and zero problems.
It handles all of the doubles and flat landing jumps I have thrown at it
Glad your battery has worked for you Shane
Zero problems here too.
It also appears as tough as it is strong!

No 8's for me today. The heat index was 98-103 degrees for most of the day. DA was 2700-2800 for most of the day. I found myself with too little gear for the situation. Coming off the clutch with the throttle pinned simply resulted in weak acceleration (DA of about 2400 for this pass):
On the plus side, I did run up to 152 mph in the heat. Also, some very consistent back-to-back passes. I have a few small changes to make, and I'll be looking for even an 85 degree day to make a run at the 8's.
I really gave it my all today, but it just wasn't in the cards!

That's awesome anyway Shane. Is that your fastest MPH so far. I see 5w20 Dominator getting you where you want to be in those conditions. Keep at it! James

I have run 152 in the past, but in cooler conditions. I believe that the combination of the Maxton Map and the short velocity stacks helped the mph. I also believe that the short stacks hurt my drive off the line. The bike was pretty weak down low. I'll add a little gear to compensate.
The 10/40 Amsoil worked well in the heat. I really pounded on the bike hard yesterday. At one point I staged and I was one bar off of full rack on the temp gauge. I don't really like to beat on the bike like that, and I was glad I had the synthetic....it gave me a little more peace of mind. When it gets cooler I will probably try some of the lighter oil. I really want to get the bike on the dyno when I try the thinner oil.
Racheal also made 21 passes on her 1000 yesterday. This was the first time she had been on a bike (except in our driveway) since her crash. She ended up running some 9.70's footshifting. That's about .2 off her best, in cooler conditions.

Kevin, don't be surprised if you need a little more gear with those short stacks. I need to have my bike mapped on the dyno, but I think it was a little weaker on the launch yesterday. I expected this already, having seen the dyno results. But it definitely was rolling on the big end of the track, which was my goal for the LSR.

Here's some numbers from yesterday:
The R/T is crazy on the rightmost pass...I don't recall falling asleep? Maybe a timing glitch or something...but I can't remember sleeping that deeply in the last, say, two years?

Two more passes, made after lunch when it was heating up. These passes were back-to-back:
I came off the clutch too quickly here, and it cost me a little drive:
I suggest that everyone get as many videos of their runs as possible. What we think we are doing, and what is actually happening, are often different. Video is a great tool for improvement.

One more pass, illustrating the importance of getting low. Small wheelie costs me drive, due to poor body positioning (sitting too high):
I need to really focus on body positioning for the rest of the season.
