LOL,
my build has been anything but fast....
a few times I have gotten so discouraged with the continuous supply issues, that I have rolled it into the corner of the shop and thrown a cover on it,
There have been times where it I have to get away from it, or pull out big hammer...
The hammer solution wouldn't help anything....:P
problem is if I leave for long, it costs more time to get back into it, and remember the issues I had, or need to address.
I hear you on that one. I have walked away from mine many times. Like right in the middle of some work...I might just stand up, turn off the lights, and leave it be....for days. There was a time over the winter when I kept looking at it...wondering how it was ever going to get put back together! I just didn't have the motivation.
I am kind of in that spot with the electrical right now. Every time I get started, there is a hold up. Or some different idea I have, etc...you know how it goes.

Well, with any luck I'll be at the track tomorrow. I decided to add some wheelbase to the bike since it is so light up front. I added the minimum that I could, which puts the bike at about 64.25". My gearing is now 17/45...with my taller rear tire, that equates to about 16/42 with a Shinko.
I had to add a second master link. I'm sure some people will scream over this..but the reality is that any chain is only as strong as the weakest link (that's a cliche, right?). I also know of a number of people who have run multiple links without issue. I put some Permatex Ultra Blue on the two clips. I chose the blue because it is a good product, and easy to check at the track:
I think that most catastrophic chain failures occur well after the clip has come off. But if you don't catch it, you are in trouble. This last time at Maxton, I spit the clip at some point. When I found it later, the plate was still luckily pressed in place. But that tells me I need to watch them closely. I did not have any rtv on the last clip.
I have a camera mounted (as posted earlier). Here is how the Motocomm DSR-100 is mounted to the bike:
I also took the time to sand and re-spray the race bodywork. Nothing fantastic, but it looks better to me:
Anyway, that's about it. It's been almost 3 months since I've been to the dragstrip and I only have about 15 passes this season. I'm crossing my fingers for a good day at the track tomorrow, and hopefully a new personal best (9.23 is the number for me to beat). But my #1 goal is to have fun.

Looks real nice Shane.
For the LSR (not sure what speed you are looking for, or is it the 200mph)?
But with the rear wheel: Push bikes for speed - less drag, make the rear wheel a disc (as in covered spokes etc). With your rear wheel so far back i was thinking about all the turbulance etc.
If it's any concern for you have a think about some sort of snap-bolt on covers. But maybe that wont make your bike compliant for the LSR...

Streamlined tail sections are fairly common in LSR. 180 degrees of wheel coverage is acceptable. However, in my case I am not too worried about it....that would be something I might look into for a dedicated LSR machine. This bike wears too many hats for that!
quote:We just got home. Here is the update for today:
The bike was fairly fast and consistent today. 6 passes:
193.03
193.14
193.84
192.56 (rider error)
193.20
192.37 (hot bike, and air temps)
Every run was better than my prior best. I ran the Brock's MR9 map. I was not about to drain the tank this morning, so I added my remaining MR9. So the mix was about 2 gallons of pump/MR9 at first, and then another 1.5 gallons of MR9 on top. I am sure it would have run better with straight MR9, but it wasn't in the cards today. I didn't have enough fuel to run on MR9 alone.
I was nearly tapped out as far as gearing, with the tach showing about 11,200 +/- indicated through the lights. I figure it had another 150 rpm in it. I believe it has some more speed in it with a sprocket change.
All told, 14 passes between 185-193 mph this weekend. Many of them in searing heat.
As far the logging, nope, I didn't log it. The map was made in summer heat, at Maxton, with the same bike setup. I felt comfortable running it. If anything, it should have a run little rich due to less oxygen in the fuel.
The logger is coming, and soon.
Shane
Shane - Great job - you now have me totally beat and in the heat with diluted MR9 - October should be fast - maybe I need to find a light weright jockey to see what mine will do - as one last run before full retirement to the drag strip...... I think taller gearing will help..... at both the bottom and the top end..... and then there is duct tape on all the joints

Thanks man. I'm hoping to see a little more in the Fall. Trying to focus on the dragstrip now.

Shane you are killin me ...Let go of that clutch !!!!!!! Your holding till just about half way to the 330 mark ...It needs to be out before the 60 foot mark so you can get the throttle pinned FASTER..
If you just run a 1.45 60 you will run a 8.90 and that's in the heat !!!!!!
Shane do me a favor , please don't work on the bike ...Get back to the track ASAP .. One or two more trips and you will be forever in the 8s ..
Watch the 60 foot cone and the 330 cone , use them as a marker and note where you get the clutch out , also take note of where you pinned the throttle ... Each run try to shorten the distance .. Shane you are there , you just need a bit more seat time ..

I'm working on it, Lee! I wish I had more passes this year...but my total is about 38 passes since last November, and on a completely new bike.
The video is helpful. I can definitely hear and see the difference between a 9.0 & 9.1 on my vids. And of course a big difference from your vid, Lee. I'm sure it will take awhile to chip these times down. If I can get consistent 9.0's, I'll be happy (with an occasonal 8.9, of course!).

Believe me, it is all the bike in my case. Good to meet you, good looking and running bike. I like that exhaust! Maybe we'll see you out there again...

One thing I need to look into is how to keep the tire from spinning on the rim. The BST is slick. I was running 18 psi, and then increased it to 24. It still moved about 2" or so within 2 passes.
I was very careful to clean up the bead before I inflated the tire. I had heard this might be a concern, and it is.

I'm really not that fast; I guess I have about 500 passes (combined 1/8 and 1/4) or so under my belt...on a few different bikes. That's pretty low compared to a lot of the fast guys. Ask Smokin how many passes he has over the years!
You are probably wheelying because you are not being smooth with the clutch, and you are slipping it out at the end. It looks like you are being really easy with it coming off the line. You can't engage the clutch softly and get the bike moving. It's sometimes referred to as the "stick and slide". You snap the clutch out firm and fast to get the bike rolling..then "slide" it out the rest of the way, smoothly and quickly.
Remember, you have a lot of weight there! If you engage the clutch in quick, controlled manner you will get the bike rolling and get the 60 ft. times down. You can easily shave .3 off of your 60 foot alone, which would probably put you in the nines. With as much gear as you have, get the clutch out fast....then pin the throttle. Let the motor do the work. If you try to grab a handful of throttle while slipping it, it is going to wheelie on you.
Remember, I am not an expert...so try to get as much feedback as you can from the truly fast guys. Good luck!

I've read you mentioning this before but now actually seing the marker
and how much the rim spun inside of the tire..... well, you got me
Curious to see how you mend this. If the tire is inflated up to 38-40 psi
for regular street riding I doubt that the spin would be that pronounced.
That AREA P muffler is really growing on me and I might have to just get one.
Glad to hear of your progress in the1/4 ____________

This will not be an issue on the street, I promise you. Unless your street is prepped with VHT and you regularly do dragstrip launches.

I am running less gear now because the bike is a lot lighter, especially up front. I ran 9.30's on the bike with basic bolt-ons last year, and the same 60 ft's. I have picked up mph and ET from my changes, but my "skill" at launching the bike is still at the same level as last year.

I was really amazed when I first saw those time slips! 8's are coming soon for sure! The bike is looking bad as ever shane. Keep up the good work.
Thanks man! I am really just barely getting used to this bike now, so much has changed. I'm looking forward to more track time.
When I get my riding squared away a bit, it will be interesting to see how she runs with a small shot of spray. But I am patient. I'd like to see consistent 8's before making that change.
