Arm is nearly complete:

My Penske shock is reportedly on it's way.

My shock hasn't shown up yet, but I wanted to get something done with the swingarm. I removed the stock piece to get ready to install the new arm. Here you can see the two compared:

I also weighed both again, and was able to confirm the difference as 4.6 lbs, + whatever the chain guide weighs. Here is the view without an arm on the bike:

New arm test fitted:

The shock should arrive Monday or Tuesday and then I can get the arm and suspension buttoned up.

without seaching 30 pgs, can you give the details on the 1K wheel swap? I talked to someone else who did it and they said they used small shims on the front and they fit (dont know about rotors), and they used zx14 spacers on rear and "new bearing", custom i guess, and 1K rotor?

hi shane,

you guys may have already founder a lighter solution, but I just wanted to mention these gas caps are 70-80% lighter than the stock ones with locks. I know first hand quality is VERY high

No, too many details. Try pages 15-25 for info.

Thanks Steve. I put on a Vortex, which weighs about 60% of stock, but I'll look into these.

a used swing arm I got and I am removing that welded tab. Go long go 8's :-)

Another diet weigh-in. Kind of a downer today:

Goal Weight for 4/13/09: 196 lbs
Actual: 199.4 lbs

I usually weigh in during the morning, so I knew I'd likely be a little heavier this evening. But still, I am off the mark and will have to get more focused to meet my next goal, 190 lbs, by 5/13/09.

On the plus side, I haven't been under 200 lbs. in about 4 years. I've held under 200 for over a week now. And I guess I shouldn't complain about 12.6 lbs. lost in the last two months. Just not quite enough discipline to hit my goal for this week....perhaps it was that whole pizza I ate.

I figure it will be the same for me...I'm just getting a late start. I'm looking to drop 25 more lbs from me, and the bike should be about 50+ lbs. lighter. That will ultimately make for a loss of 87+ lbs. from last season.

My Penske shock came today. It is a very nice shock. A little shorter, and a little lighter than the stock shock (around 5 lbs. 10 oz vs. 5 lbs. 15 oz for the oem).

It is remote reservoir. I guess that is good for making adjustments, but not so good for fitting it on the bike. The reservoir hose fitting looks like it is angled in a bad way and may need adjusted.

If anyone has one of these shocks, I'd love to see how you routed the line for the reservoir...and how it is angled off of the shock body.

Once I learn how to interpret the data, I'll be set.

I'm going to put the undertail on tomorrow, and the tank, and see what I can figure out. I can always send it back for a different fitting and hose...but I'd prefer not to right now...I'm supposed to take the bike to the track next week.

Your good with numbers Shane. Just remember that 9 Calories = 1gram of fat.

Most people lose water when they first diet/excersise, so they see a quick and 'big' weight drop. But the hard part comes after that, as the fat is broken down to provide energy that you are not supposed to be getting by eating- ie: Pizza

Camel humps are stored energy (Kj's Calories etc). They start big at the star of the journey and are small at the end.
Fat cells never increase in number, they just swell.

A man (5ft 10", 30yrs 150lbs), consumes about 3000-4000 calories a day by doing virtually nothing = about a 1/3 - 1/2 of a kilo loss of weight per day.

Just keep an eye on everything you eat and drink re the energy levels. Grass has ZERO fat, so how does a cow get to weigh 400kgs? Answer Sun energy. A cow chews like mad all day and everyday, makes a pulp, then it goes through 4 stomachs - it gets every joule out of that grass it can.

Normal Coke, as in the drink guys has ZERO fat - but look at the energy.

The brain will convince you that you are hungry. It will nag you to shit so that you don't consume your stored energy in case you don't catch that buffalo for the tribes next feast! Or that desert island you might crash land on next week and not be rescued for months! Think about it; SAVE YOURSELF!!!

That's why dieting is hard, excersise and the mental side.

As you diet, your stomach shrinks (it has already expanded to accomodate the extra food) - good old brain! But as it starts to shrink with less food etc, your brain is going crazy and tries to convince that on the very next day you DESERVE!!!! that Chicken & Chips and succulent lumpy gravy with that 4 pints of ice cold beer!!!

Sorry for the lesson, but i'm looking forward to seeing you achive your goal and it just seems a shame that the food temptation might prevent you from doing it.

Watch the energy intake. Energy in and not used gets stored = excess weight.

Good luck with the build of the 14 over the next few weeks.

well put. going through rescue swimmer school we ate anything and everything and just got more and more ripped. as soon as it was over, i went through a very mentally tough school while my wife was preggers. at the end of the day i was so mentally exhausted that i just wanted to come home, drink beer and eat some hamburger helper (i was really poor lol). the next thing i knew I was 35 lbs fatter. i then went through sere (survival, evasion, resistance , and escapschool where i had no food for 6 days. I lost 18 lbs lol. it's really amazing how your body starts to block out hunger signals on about day 3.

I haven't really changed anything that would cause any losses. Wheelbase is going to be equal or greater, power equal or greater, weight will be much less.

The big problem is getting all of the changes to work without any drama. I'm expecting some issues, for sure. And I am going to skip a couple of the changes for now in order to avoid extra drama. This bike probably won't be in it's semi-final form until June.

If I had to to do again, I would change much less. But with winter, and the bike just sitting, I've gotten carried away. Hopefully it will work out for the best...

And, to be honest, modifying the bike is as much my hobby as taking it to the track!
