Shane those are sweet. Would love to have a set. Not going for the less than perfect condition though. Not on $4k or so worth of wheels.... If that is "within the realm of normal", what are they going to look like after a few more tire changes?

I've never looked into a "no touch" motorcycle tire changer, but in the automotive industry, it's completely common place now. With the kind of wheels out there (along with the prices...), man you can not even remotely think about putting the smallest scratch on wheels anymore.

The wheels have ceramic bearings in them, and the sprocket carrier will have a ceramic in it tomorrow.

Is that mark going to be visable once the tire is on?

I'm just reading what K Bryant is saying about how it's common to have "no touch' changers now and justifying it the cost to have a 'Within the realm of normal" mark that really shouldn't be there (in my mind anyway).

I agree Kerry, I wish they were perfect. I take Brock at his word that this a normal condition...I just wish mine were a little more towards the "perfect" side of normal.

The ding/mark is on the outside visible lip, about 3/8" long.

Well, one would think they would take extra care at the factory. Especially when you consider how well the rim lips are protected during shipping.

Congrats!

BTW there are some titanium sprocket bolts and nuts for BST.
I'd also recommend the 6 titanium rear brake rotor bolts.
You could simply weigh all of bolts on the rear wheel assembly
and then figure out if saving 40% of that weight justifies the $$$.

Enjoy- I know this is a very exciting investment/ upgrade for you

Well, more like a ding, but still, yeah. I guess BST can engineer a way to build a carbon composite rim, but they can't figure out how to change a tire without damaging that rim before it reaches the customer? Crazy....

Taking into account my weight measurements and what I have taken from the bike, here is the way it stacks up right now:

Weight Loss:
-----------------

Seat 5
Headlight 7.5
Battery 5
Front Wheel 1
Front brake 6
Front fender 2
Exhaust 30
Rear Wheel 5
Body 2.5
Frame 2.5
End Weights 1.5
Gas Cap .5
Rear fender 1.5
Mirrors 2
Belly Pan 1
Peg Hangers 2.5
Insulation/Damping 3
Tool Kit 2.5

Total 81 lbs.

My goal, race-ready, is 475 lbs. So, more math:

Stock weight, full of fluids 565 lbs. (Based on various sources)

Minus 81 lbs. reduction 484 lbs.

I do not run a full tank of gas. I will be running around 2 gallons.

3.8 gallons of gas @ 6 lbs. per gallon = 22.8 lbs.

Bike with 2 gallons of gas 461.2 lbs.

That leaves me with 13.8 lbs. of weight that I can add back (swingarm, air shifter, etc) Right now I figure I have used about 7 lbs. of that up. I still have to add in the nitrous system. I also have a couple of more places I am going to shed weight, so I am pretty sure I will reach my 475 lb. race-ready goal...but it's going to be close.

So we can take another 7 lbs. off of that 461.2, due to the BST's

454.2 lbs. with 2 gallons of gas, + whatever I add back in with extras. She's getting pretty slim!!

No, but I am sure I will come in at 475 or less (my goal weight with nitrous). I might end up at 465 on motor, race ready.

How about Nitrogen filled tires: The density of air at standard temperature and pressure is 1.292 kg/m3. The density of nitrogen is 1.251 kg/m3.

Also Nitrogen filled tires has lots of other 'goodies' going for it. Cooler running, leaks less etc etc.

Less Dense/Mass = FASTER...

Cutting off both legs and fitting CF prophetiss [spel] =- artificial 'things' will be lighter and faster

The best thing about using nitrogen is the pressure ramains consistent and is practically irrelevant to temperature, whaeras a tire filled with air can pick up as much as 3 psi between cold and hot.

The thermodynamics of nitrogen is much more stable.= consiistent tire pressure= consistent traction

It would save trouble at the track. I often have to adjust pressure due to temps.

I love running nitrogen in my tires. I've seen as much as a 5psi jump after a burnout at the dragstrip. Make multiple passes in the heat of the day and check them and it can be as much as 15psi more. With nitrogen it doesn't change.

*Rim Update*

I emailed Brock this morning with some better pictures and he had looked over my prior pics again. He says my rear rim does appear to be atypical. His guys are calling on Monday and we are going to get the rim changed out.

I'll update you guys when I get the new rim. BST seems to have dropped the ball here, but Brock is taking care of it.

Meanwhile, I can't stop admiring the front rim.

Hi Shane , whenever I tell my wife that I want more carbon fibre she just tells me that its cheaper to loose weight!!! Does my arse look big in this? I WILL get those BST rims no mater how long I have to sulk . More coffee till the sun comes up as I dont have a shed to work on my bike , however this is better than a shed with no bike!

I have been quietly dreaming of (lusting after?) these wheels for a couple of years. I will definitely have to make some sacrifices financially due to the purchase...but those Top Ramen noodles will help me lose weight to go faster.
