Shane ,
I think your on the right track.
I also measured mine from a work table.
Its been so damn long, but I know I checked everything 20 times.

get a centerline in the rim, work out from there bro.
forget the bead BS.
Because it tapers in, I had to keep marking the inner rim until I got it marked so the vernier read the same measuring from the inside of the lip to center from each side....
I can't remember what my measurment was...

Now there is only a 1/2 mm difference from mine and yours accounting for the rim bead thickness.

Dem BST's sure lookin better eh!

as far as the kleen system, plug the airbox at the crankcase port, run the crankcase breather line into the stock kleen caps with a T, it will reduce crankase pressure, and free up 1-2 HPon N/A bikes... the exhaust will scavenge the crank pressure out of it.
throw the valve in the parts bin, and tape the connector back... its not needed.

If you can take a few pics of the Clem's, that would be great. I am about to do something with mine, although I am leaning away from reducing the sump capacity.

That may be a possibility; but I am pretty sure that just moving the drain plug will have the header smashing before the pan. I'll know for sure this week.

It actually appears that the pan is a little lower than the pipe, based on the pictures you sent me...

Shane,
This was from an earlier post and I forgot to get back with you.

I also cut and filed the metal hanging off the oil pan and used a flush mount drain plug when I installed my new M14 Muzzy exhaust. I was able to lower the bike more and now the oil pan, shock lingage, and exhaust are level with 2" of ground clearance. Let me know if you want a plug. No drilling or tapping. I use loctite to make sure it does not back out.

The fitting is from McMaster Carr Supply phone # 630-834-9600.
The part # 916-45h 12 x 1.5 x16. I think they are $1. Cheap modification and very easy. I gave a couple of these to a guy named Farley Hall who races the AMA SS class on a ZX14 and neither one of us has had any issues.

Is there more to that part #? It is not coming up...

Kind of frustrating, I have been looking all over for such a plug...

The stock plug is a DIN 910 type. There is a lower profile plug called a DIN 908. The Din 908 uses an allen key and can be a seal type whereas the one 4racing is talking about is pretty much a 12mm set screw that would be perfectly flush with the pan. the din 908 would probably leave an 1/8in profile. Search the number it will show you something.

After some intense searching, I found this at McMaster:

99642A232
Metric Alloy Steel Cup Point Socket Set Screw M12 Size, 16mm Length, 1.5mm Special Pitch
In stock at $10.73 per Pack
This product is sold in Packs of 5

http://www.mcmaster.com/#99642a232/=x09b2

That looks to be the DIN 916 specification set screw. Definitely would need sealing on the threads of some sort.

Here are the DIN 908 spec pieces at Fuller Metric:

http://www.fullermetric.com/products/socket/din908_hexagon_socket_screw_plug.html

Only a 3mm height on the head of those. I will be ordering something this week, and we'll see how it works out.

Thanks!

I can mail you one if you want to try it. I use red loctite to seal and hold it in place and have not had any problems. Farley Hall said he just used teflon tape. I have a little more than two inches of ground clearance. My forks are pushed up 1 1/2" in the triple tree, the preload adjustment is backed all the way out, and the front end is strapped all the way down. I have never hit the oil pan at the track. I do not ride on the street with it strapped down.

I appreciate the offer; I am just going to order a pack of them tomorrow. I'm placing another order with McMaster anyway. Thanks very much for the info!

This may save me from having to pull the pan again...

I don't see a problem with measuring from the outside of the bead lip. The tire will sit in center of the two beads, and that is what I am trying to center.

I don't trust the vernier. It is too easy to skew the readings. I am trying to minimize the # of measuring points required, thereby minimizing the chances of deviation.

someone gave me one of those for my zx12 a few years back.
I didn't put any sealant on it and I never had a problem.
