ah,
I see.
well will look for you anyway.

I am ordering a bunch of ti bolts on Monday too. Can see what they have.

This guy is quite reasonable, about a buck a bolt compared to $3-4.
Getting a front axle and linkage bolts that will work, as the ti bolts i had work for the 3 hole links or stock bones.

I haven't seen any Ti stuff that has the length of shoulder that I need.

Wow, $1 a bolt is cheap for Ti!

The larger bolts are twice the weight of the oem...20g each, vs. 10g.

3.5 vs. 7 oz. total for all 10.

Not a big deal, just an observation. I wonder how much they would weigh in Ti? I don't think Ti is very cost effective for weight reduction, at least on the scale of bolts.

Of course, I may be wrong!

No, it really isn't very cost effective except for big bolts like the the swingarm, axle, and engine bolts, but pro bolt aluminum is expensive and very limited for load ratings.
If I am going to spend the money for custom bolts, it might as well be Ti.

Today I weighed some exhaust system components. I'm not sure that I will find a tremendously lighter exhaust than the Muzzy M14. Maybe TiForce?

Header 7 lbs. 8 oz.
Mid Pipe 1 lb. 8 oz.
Stainless Muffler 5lb. 2 oz.
Area P Muffler 3 lb. 13.4 oz.

With Area P Carbon Muffler, this whole system weighs about 13 lbs.

I'd be all over that Shortmeg that Racers is selling in the Classifieds!
I suspect it is even lighter than the Alien Head with the baffle off.

Great thread, but I don't know why you're killing yourself to put stock GSXR wheels on.

I like them?

And of course they are lighter, 1/2 the cost of aftermarket, share sprockets with the 1000 we have, fairly unique on a 14, etc.

I'm not really "killing myself". More of a challenging, rewarding project, imo.

I ordered a Shortmeg. I almost went with a used one, but the prospect of having it in my hands this week was too much to pass up.

If anyone is looking to buy used, I suggest they get in touch with rACeRs. Brock told me they give 100% support for owners, new or used.

My new bodywork arrived today.

I will be replacing these 9 oem pieces:

With these two Catalyst parts:

It will make things a lot more simple. I measure around 2.5 lbs. overall weight savings....not including the 7.5 for the headlight.

A couple of more shots:

I am not going to be fitting these for a few weeks. These are not just a "bolt-on" affair. There is drilling and some other work to be done. I've decided not to use the extended tail section I installed earlier; I didn't care for the look and had some fitment issues (these issues can be avoided).

My main priority right now is to get the bike to where it is a roller. That means the rear wheel, swingarm, forks, etc. need to be done yet. I've got about 8 weeks to get it race ready.

THANK YOU for not ordering the catalyst extended rear section. So ugly...... It will look good though without the head lights. Looks like you have yourself a pure track bike now though. Why don't you go to a non- o-ring chain too since you can't ride it on the street. From what I understand that save a lot of weight.

I did run the extended tail for a bit, but I'm not too thrilled with it for my use.

I have a non o-ring chain, DRZ-2, on the bike...it is pretty heavy...much thicker plates than stock. I have some pics in the thread early on.

The bike is still "safe" for the street in the daylight. I am also keeping a brake/tail light installed. Just in case I need to run it through the gears or troubleshoot any issues on the street. In my state you don't need to run signals. I may rig up a clamp on headlight, then it will pass state inspection.

More action with the scales this morning. Here are the weights of some stock pieces, as accurate as my scales will allow:

Stock Seat and Cowl:

7 lbs. 10 oz.

Muffler hanger/Peg Bracket:

1 lb. 4 oz.

Mirror:

1 lb.

End Weight:

9 oz.

Rear fender assembly:

1 lb. 12 oz.

Belly pan and bracket:

1 lb. 2 oz.

Stock Exhaust System:

Muffler/Midpipe Assemblies: 14.5 lbs. ea.
Header 9 lbs.
Total 38 lbs.

Dubious has some more weight measurements of stock pieces in his thread:

Taking into account my weight measurements and what I have taken from the bike, here is the way it stacks up right now:

Weight Loss:
-----------------

Seat 5
Headlight 7.5
Battery 5
Front Wheel 1
Front brake 6
Front fender 2
Exhaust 30
Rear Wheel 5
Body 2.5
Frame 2.5
End Weights 1.5
Gas Cap .5
Rear fender 1.5
Mirrors 2
Belly Pan 1
Peg Hangers 2.5
Insulation/Damping 3
Tool Kit 2.5

Total 81 lbs.

My goal, race-ready, is 475 lbs. So, more math:

Stock weight, full of fluids 565 lbs. (Based on various sources)

Minus 81 lbs. reduction 484 lbs.

I do not run a full tank of gas. I will be running around 2 gallons.

3.8 gallons of gas @ 6 lbs. per gallon = 22.8 lbs.

Bike with 2 gallons of gas 461.2 lbs.

That leaves me with 13.8 lbs. of weight that I can add back (swingarm, air shifter, etc) Right now I figure I have used about 7 lbs. of that up. I still have to add in the nitrous system. I also have a couple of more places I am going to shed weight, so I am pretty sure I will reach my 475 lb. race-ready goal...but it's going to be close.
