Cleaning and shining your bike…

Cleaning and shining your bike…

With 4 kids I sometimes think I spend more time cleaning my bike than riding it (and it does look good).

I was wondering if anyone out there has an easy way or a good product that I can try for cleaning the rims (especially the back one).

I use WD40 for the rims. Removes chain splatter and associated muck cleanly, just be careful not to get it on tires.

Honda Spray Cleaner and Polish

Yeah I like that Honda Polish, I had several cans of it but a few months back I went in to by some more cause I was out and they told me that they don't make it anymore. I bought a year supply of this other cleaner that has a carnuba wax in it and when I spray it on my rims and let it soak in for a 2nd, when you wipe it off those tires gleam. A local guy sold the stuff in front of a gas station and I can't remember the name of it so when I get home I will get that name so that if anyone can find it they can try it out and tell me what they think.

Put the bike on stands us a garden hose and a soft dish brush with diluted simple green. Works great. Takes me about 15min both rims.
For the rest of the bike I use Pro cleaner (the same thing as Honda Pro Cleaner just no Honda). A bit expensive but last a good while and works great!!!

Doesn't wd40 just attract more dirt?

spray wd-40 on a rag and wipe off your rims and chain, they will look new. i use meguiars wash for majorwashing and meguires spray detailer for inbetweens. 10 minutes and you have the shiniest bike at bikenight. repeated use of the spray detaler before each ride keeps things from sicking to your panit and makes cleanup a snap.

Honda Polish (renamed now to "Original Pro Cleaner") for the everything except the rims. The rims I use WD-40. You wont find anything (except Honda Polish) that cuts through the gunk like WD-40...and it is relatively cheap compared to the rest of the stuff.....

I agree..............S100 is a great product. WD 40 definetly takes the goo off of rims, but is a petroleum based product. S100 is water based and rinses off completely and easily. I just spray it on the rims and calipers, hit it with a toothbrush real quick and spray it off. Wipe with a towel...........

And just for the record............I have used WD40 on my rims forever. Seems like I always have some around.......... The S100 can be used to clean the ENTIRE bike quickly and safely..............just spray on and hose off like Jeff said............

I use a product called Never-Dull, it is cotton in a can which has some sort of metal polish in it. 1st I wash the rims with plain soap and water only, no harsh chemicals, then wipe dry with clean cloth, then get a wod of Never -Dull and wipe rims. It removes what ever thats not supposed to be there. It leaves a lite film, then buff with micro fiber cloth. Looks great!

Never Dull is a metal polish not intended for painted surfaces...you might want to check that it wont do any harm to your rims if they are painted or clear coated. jmo

When I had stock wheels, I would use Pledge furniture polish. It worked great and didn't attract dust.

Now that I have polished aluminum Galespeeds, I use Windex!!!!

There is a product they sell here called PLEXUS, same thing as the honda polish. I swear by the it and Mcguires and quick detailer. I have never heard of using WD40 for cleaning you wheels, how is that on chrome?

I use wd40 for the wheels and for the rest of the bike I use soap and water, dry it and polish it with ICE. Their detailer works well too. Honda polish is awesome stuff, but is expensive and goes way too fast.

I use chain cleaner to get the grease off the rear rim (Motorex 611). Easy to do and you don't have to worry about the tire (like WD-40). Then it is Mothers aluminum polish - I stripped and polished the rims a while back.

WD-40 is the best for the rims and makes thems look like I just saw it for the first time. But obviously take your time so none of it touches the tire. Meguires for the plastic! It's the BEST!
