Can the flies be disabled?
Just a thought here,
Can the actuator that opens/closes the secondary butterfies be disabled in the open position versus flat out removing them?
I seem to recall that the actuator is on the left side fo the throttle bodies? I'm gonna look when I get home but it's driving me nucking futts right now thinking about it.

I removed mine...but would something like the Ivan's Timing Retarder Eliminator do what you're looking for? See page 88 of the new issue of Cycle World (7/2008).
That article is the sum total of what I know about a TRE, I'm sure others on the site will know the pros/cons.
Good luck

Just get a good screwdriver and be done with it.

Hi there,
Yes, I'm aware of the total secondary removal method, that's not what i was asking though.
the TRE would definately work, but I'm looking for a solution with a bit less negative impact.
Back to the original topic ... can the flies be disbaled rather than removed.
(As in locked in the open position?

Nope.......
The ECU does a self-test at startup and the flies MUST move to pass....or it throws a code 32.
You have to trick them into being open (TRE or a resistor) or take 'em out.....

Howdee,
There we go, an answer that fits. Much appreciated! Saves me from experimenting this weekend before my PC3 and pipes come in.

Nope, if you unplug or lock them open you get an error code and the bike goes into limp mode. The tre helps some but not near as good as pulling the flies out, its about halfway between stock and flies out performance wise.

Kawabonzi-There's a lot of info on this topic. If you seach, you find the same answers delivered in every possible way.
I know fasterthanstink was dirtect with his answer;Just get a good screwdriver and be done with it.
But he's right! No by-pass, just remove. No matter how you flip it or turn it these are facts( if you want to perform @ the level it does minus the flies).... Enjoy

Search feature with BikeLand's Google backend is a joke. 99.9% false positives and every generic topic revealed.
I should change my sig to be ... "I only post when search fails."

...just bring it by my place, I'll remove them for free and install your pipe/PCIII at no cost. What a bargain eh? Or you can blow some dough on an ATRE which works well enough.

I think I'll try the install myself, it cant be any harder than installing stereo / alarms. the trick is to get a good ground for the PC-III eh?
I was planning on running both hot and ground straight to the battery. Good idea?
Also, my PC-III will be located under the seat where that charcoal box USED to be.
From there I can load the map Muzzy sent me and then reset my throtle position as instructed in other posts. (SEE ... I did do a search.)
