Cycle World - Compliments of Sticks N Stones
Sticks put this is the "Bike Chat" forum. Its such a relevant post I pasted his post over here:
0-180 Shootout! July '08 Cycle World surprise winner
Looks like the 'Busa and 14 owners might have to eat a little crow right now. The king of Speed is apparently the ZX-10. Followed by a (gulp!) Augusta!!! Whats the world coming to?

Hope they are legible...

Maybe it's a bit blurry, The only advantage i see is is .41 tenths of a second 0-150 that could of been only as slight move, as a better shift. Or the dude had a pocket full of change. And why is the car even on the chart. Kind-of makes the whole thing bull ! Also shows the Busa as the best 1/4 mile i dont see it spanking many 14's

what ever,
the average guy, or even most pro's will never be able to launch a 10 like the 14, street or track.
I said months before the new 10 was released that it would be a monster.... just from all the changes they made, especially with the crank assembly and head.
Strangely my 130 lb friend on a 08 10 can't catch me (200 lbs ) on my friends 14.
(my bike is still waiting for turbo pistons and rods)

ha, look at the zx10 torque! only 77 lbf ...no wonder it does not do well in the 1/4 mile .It only has oomph with the needle planted near the red line, not a lot of useable power!
the king still reigns where it counts the most.... also those 1 litre bikes do not respond that well to modifications, put a new pipe and pc and you would be lucky to get an extra 7 hp !!with a busa ,you looking at 15 ponies and weight saving of more than 30 lb whereas zx10's
weight saving would be next to nothing. Line them up modded and i can have a good laugh...

I guess if you are buying the bike and keeping it relatively stock, and you are a jockey, these numbers are really significant.
That being said, you can't ignore the physics of 100 lbs. of additional weight. Just as you can't ignore the ultimate capabilites of an engine 35% larger.
Fortunately, there is still a lot of weight to shave from a Busa or 14...and those bikes are geared to run close to 186 in 5TH GEAR. Regear them to run 186 in 6th, and see how those acceleration numbers change. Also, the larger bikes have aeros that can actually conceal a normal sized adult male in full tuck.
Every bike has it's purpose.

Better rethink that part about only gaining 7 hp with a pipe on the zx10 ... The 08 zx10 has been picking up 15 to 16 hp with a pipe and p/c and saved 14 pounds of dead weight...2 cats and two muffles have the new 08 zx10 plugged up real bad ....The reason most people are going to be faster in the 1/4 on a busa or zx14 is because the zx10 is so damn short !!! The zx10 in stock form is a wheely king .. I ran a 9.97 on my stone stock 08 zx10 and that was with the front tire off the ground most of the track ..It was half track before i could get full throttle ... ( Just Ask Steve ) ....My zx14 is now setting at 61 1/2 inch wheel base and with very little set time the numbers are very very close to my zx14 setting at 64 inches ..
I will agree for most people that the busa / zx14 will be easier to get a good number at the 1/4 mile ...But line up your Busa / zx14 with a zx10 and a rider with some skills and you are going to be very unhappy with the outcome...If you think a liter bike can't out run a Busa / zx14 in stock form in the 1/4 mile all you have to do is look at AMA Prostar Super Sport class... The busa and zx14s run 9.teens to 9.20s while the zx10s and Gixxers are 8.90s to 9.0s ...

Too bad the 08 14 does no justice. The 06 and 07 14s seem to have more peak hp.So with that in mind you would think, would have done better in the test. At least against its main rival the Busa.

yep, at 6'1" and 245lbs and not planning on getting any smaller i must admit that the zx-10 is real cute....and quick..... add 100lbs to the zx-10 and see what happens.....subtract 100lbs from the zx-14 and see what happens....... which motor is impressive ?

No ship jumping ...My zx14 is king in my house... The zx10 is a fun little bike but for overall riding i'll pick the zx14 hands down ...I look at them this way , a zx10 is a Vega with a killer small block twisting 8 grand and the zx14 is a 70 Caddy with a warmed over 472 cube motor with A/C ....Each one is fun in its own way but totaly different ..

I don't understand where this comes from - I've seen this over and over on the Internet, with no supporting proof.
In the "Brock is MIA" thread, Brock wrote about the 08: " It makes more power than my 06 ZX-14 did with the same miles and about the same as the 08 Busa does now....."
Rickey Gadson did extensive testing of the 08 and stated that it made several HP more.
What expert witness would we call to overrule these 2 findings?

Stock to stock.....I believe it was Cycle World that had an 06 14 dyno at around 171 and some change??? Don't quote me on that.Thats all I was saying.08 stock 14 163hp in this article.I would think a stock 06 or 07 with a little more steam at top stock would have done alittle better.Cheers BTW I own an 08 14..and hauls azz.....
