GPS Speed vs Rpm measurements on my stock ZZR 1400. Check the big error !!!

4500 rpm = 139@Speedo = 131@GPS 6,1% Error

9000 rpm = 275@Speedo = 253@GPS 8,7% Error

10400 rpm >300@Speedo = 295@GPS

10550 rpm >300@Speedo = 300@GPS 9,6% Error ?!?

I set the shift light to 10.600rpm and it never came on in 6th.

The Ratio RPM vs Speedo is constant, and they both diverge from the real values at the same rate.
The error at high Rpm/Speed is enormous, close to 10% at max engine speed ! So the actual engine RPM at 300km/h is about 9600rpm.

I've never seen such a big tachometer optimism in any of the bikes I had before, nor in the hudred cars I modified so far ! Is this typical from Kawasaki bikes ?

Keep it flying !

Have you noticed that while both the Speedo and Tacho are optimistic by several percent the ECU's 300km/h (186mph) 6th gear speed limiter is spot on when the speed is accurately measured with GPS or speed trap?

What I'm getting at is that they obviously can measure the speed accurately but the dashboard instruments are calibrated with a big optimistic error.

Ran up to 10500 in 6th, speedo was buried, figured had to be some error. motor was trying to wimp out or bog. Will remap this week on the dyno.

You hit the top speed limiter. A remap won't do it, you need a Speedo Healer.

You are running it on a dyno arent you? No wind drag to push the bike back and cause the tire to slip. On the road, you will see an even bigger % loss at high speeds, right Bob? Just guessing here, but Bob has mentioned it in the past.

What speed does that start to come into play Bob?

Checking the map to make sure not leaning out. The Ely road is 12 miles from the salt flats and is used by the Rally car guys. Motorcycles are banned this year according to the taxi people. Rick has a couple of vettes he races in the rally so I'll find out for sure. Nice thing is, can hit top end within a mile which means I can run taller gear.

Thats what i have my steidmans shift light dip switchs set at 10.000rpm. I had it set at 10600 when i first installed it but every time i adjust it i have to lower the setting to stay out off the rev limiter! My point was the tach is not very accurite. I think the light is getting bad but at first i still saw 11200 on the tach with the light set at 10600 so i'd say the factory tach is not that good!!
