buying a new bike...

Well I am working part time at a local dealer. And with gas getting HIGHER AND HIGHER getting rid of my 07 ZX10 and getting a little ninja 500 as a commuter bike. I can get one ridiculously cheap so I am gonna get it tommorrow. Anyone know what kind of gas mileage these things REALLY get??

Like asking how many times you jerk off each week. Depends how hard you pull it. Slow and easy 70 mpg, hard and fast 40 at the most.

Yeah that sounds about right...............bottom line the 500 ninja is an AWESOME little bike, i owned one in the late 80's-early 90's and it took down many a larger bike, it handled good, got great gas milage and was a fun little bike to buzz around on.

Anyone worked on a map for fuel economy?
I am running 2 maps currently. 1 for sport and 1 for NOS
I am going to add a third map for fuel economy (I hope)
Let me know if anyone has input...
Thanks

i used to get 45 mpg when i took it easy...brocks map and pipe, flies out... 45 mpg seems pretty good ... better then selling a 14 for a 500... i could probably out run a 500 to the 60ft mark.... just my thoughts

Gas prices high? Don't come to the UK then, it around $9.50 a gallon here. Mostly tax of course.

ZX-10 or 500 Ninja? For a few dollars more on gas I know what I'd rather be riding.

Selling a 10 for an ex500

Wheres the savings there??? I think it's called " Penny wise Dollar Foolish "

Why not just add a tooth to the front sprocket and your gas mileage will shoot up!!!

I just bought a Vulcan 500 LTD last week just to putz around on because I have my 14 set up for the strip. The motor is based on the Ninja 500. I just checked the gas mileage today and it got 56.8 mpg, around town and highway combined. The little thing is a blast to ride, too.

Everywhere else other than the US has the EFI on the new 250....so what if it costs an extra 400 bucks to go EFI.....i'd buy it. But why only the US?

The 250 is a fun ass bike but so completely gutless it will kill you to ride it. Get a SV650S or a 650 Ninja, trust me.

I had a few friends that had the EX500's, and I hated riding them. Got maybe 5000 miles of riding them (I "stored it" for a friend while he was serving time. He got out and it had a K & N stage 3 kit, agnition advance kit, and Super Trapp slipons on it. He was happy as a lark).

Thing was, every time I rode it all I could do is complain to myself how poorly it handled and how rough the engine was, brakes sucked, etc... Yeah it was faster than my 250 Ninja, but the tradeoff was huge. I bought a '88 600 Ninja after that and never ONCE thought about that 500 again. And the gas mileage wasnt that great, I averaged around 50mpg on that '88 EX500.

I doubt they changed much in the ensuing years either. They still look the exact same!

My wife has the '07 650r Ninja. Gas milage is awesome. I used it twice last week and drove from Seattle to Olympia Wa. 65 miles. I filled the tank to the top when I left and when arriving. Both times I used .83 and .82 of a gallon respectively. That's driving strictly highway at 70mph.
My '08 ZX-14 drank 1.5 gal and my 1985 900 Ninja used 1.3 gal. Exact same trip each day going to work.
I still prefer the ZX-14 for obvious reasons and one not so obvious reason. Slamming on the breaks. In hwy traffic the 14 has incredible stopping power! Nothing compares. This should be brought up more often. I've never measured it or seen it in writing, but it resembles a roller coaster when the ride ends, (and 10 times faster).

The 14 brakes are great, no doubt, but if you were to check you would find that any new sports car can match or beat a bike in the 60-0 braking arena. Unfortunately the distance from the wheels centerline to the center of the mass of a sport bike/rider combo is alot higher than that of a car, making the front tire do a unfairly large amount of the work to stop a bike.

Overall weight of bike/rider is not so much of an issue as most think though. As long as your front tire doesnt skid that is.
