Cornering clearance....

Greetings all.....
After logging 60,000 miles on two different ZX12R's, I broke down and baught an 08 ZX14. I really didn't think the 14 could replace the all around ability of the 12, everything from comuting, touring,to several track days, but to my suprise, I am falling for this bike.
Iv'e had not one single complaint about the 14 until last weekend. I found the cornering clearance limitations. It wasn't the pegs or winglets like on the 12(which were only a few times on the track) but rather the right side fairing on the 14. Uuuuuuuuuuuuuhg!! It left a 2" by 3" oval black spot on my silver fairing. It's where the fairing has a bubble in it to clear the wide engine. I cured the 12 quite easy with Vortex rear sets, but with the 14, I have NO ideas.
Anyways, was currious if anyone else had found this out the hard way, as I haven't seen any articles/posts on this subject. And maybe theres a cure(besides don't lean so far).
I'd also like to take this time to thank many of you for your tech support and informative articles regaurding the 14. And....BROCK Performance is EVERYTHING you all said. My bike now sports a full Gen 3 with glow pollished titanium muffler and also a Smeg conversion, pc3usb, no flys and a few cosmetic pieces here and there.
I'll try to posts pics of my 14 if I can find a host sometime.

Use photobucket for pictures, and hurry, because we want to see your bike. My chicken strips are probably close to an inch wide, so I know I'll never have the same problem!

Yeah, photobucket is the hosting site for sure.

On the cornering issue, I have no strips at all on my tires and haven't scraped anything. I have my suspension set pretty stiff too. All I can think of is if you're scraping that bad, try moving off the bike more while leaned over to pull it through more w/out having it scrape. Just my $.02

P.S, glad you finally joined the 14 world and left the 12.

get your suspension tweaked, it is set up way way soft stock. i had mine done by chad at kinetic motorsports in new port richie fla and it made all the difference. you are scraping cause it is set too soft.

Me and bigdtd always see eye to eye.
I thought the same so that's why I bolded that in my post.

Yellow is scuffing - red is a hole. That is why I was glad my 06 lower was black.

With the forks in the clamps at stock level and with the susp stiff for hard riding the pegs should hit first. Now I hang off more and do not even have a 14 fairing

You can see from this pic that the engine is set to the right quiet a bit to balance it with the heavier trans parts on the left. For those that ride in the right lane...right side lane - like in the US....we tend to get the left down first b/c left turns are longer than rights on avg....the track is diff.

There is no way to fix it.....

there are several pics of ZX14 fairings scraped on these forums.

in fast turns I always held the bike up as far as possible while hanging my arse off the seat and putting a knee down like I was on a track bike and i never scraped my fairings.

I hang, but won't touch a public road with any part of my body - never know what it may catch....

There was someone in Washington state on one of the forums, can't remember if it was here or on zx14ninja. His name was Livinez I think, sorry the memory isn't what it used to be. He did a number of track days with his 14 and listed what touched down and when. Once you remove the lower fairing for clearance you will touch a number of other hard parts on the motor and frame. He stopped using his 14 for track days when he starting touching down with things like the lower edge of the surround for the oil level glass.
Bottom line, big bike, big motor, things will touch. Get an Ohlins with ride height adjust, raise the rear end, slide the forks a little and get all the hard parts further off the ground.

Raising the CG is counterproductive - just get a smaller bike......
