FRAME CRACKED BY REAR SUSPENSION

I was putting the belly wing on my bike the other day when I noticed that the frame had a crack in it where the rear suspension sits on. I bought this bike at a really good deal and knew the racing history on it. In hindsight, maybe that's why it was a good deal. You know the saying: Don't cry over spilled milk. Lesson learned. Well at this point I need to figure out what I want to do. I have a bike shop in my area that are magicians when it comes to welding. I'm gonna take it to them to see what it would set me back to have it welded back together. I did a little research on here to see if anyone who had the same problem got any results from Kawasaki but to no avail. If anyone DID get results please let me know. If not it looks like I will be on my other bike for a few weeks until I get this thing resolved which basically means get the money up because it will probably lean on a grand or more for the total job. Hell, I may even do the tear down with my club mechanic if it can save me a about $400-$500. I hope my misfortune is someone's gain. If they are looking to buy a used 14 off someone, CHECK YOUR FRAME FOR CRACKS!!!!!

Post pictures so we can see where the problem is. There is a problem with engine installs on some 14 from the factory but kaw does not admit it. Another problem occurs when the motor is pulled for what ever reason and then not properly installed. We have seen this happen more than once. Sorry you did not know this before you bought the bike. It can be fixed. I hate to admit it but had one done by lifting bike up with engine lift and the guy welded it with no problems to date. The guy that recommended to try it is the best machinest i have ever used. The man is 70 some yrs old and i think he could weld a banana peel together... LMK if you need help with your problem. I will go to the garage in the morning and try to snap some pics. Where is your guy located? If he is within reasonable traveling distance as well as reasonable pricing I may look into it.

there are some old threads on this , some over torque in the swingarm or motor area i believe, should be much less than a k for welding

The welding should be fairly inexpensive. It's the possibility of having to drop the engine, exhaust and swingarm to do a complete weld all the way around that's the pricey part. Trust me. If I can get around all that I will.

Does this bike have the stock swingarm? Has it ever had an extended arm?

Thanks, hope you get it sorted without a lot of cash.

A little history on this bike: It was the fastest 14 in the country when the 14 first came out. I believe the owner said it did an 8.77 back in 2006. It had nitrous and swingarm and the full Muzzy on it now but the engine was stock. Engine went through a rebuild before I bought it. Some of you race heads might even know the bike if you're from the NJ area. It was wrenched by Ricky Gadson and his people. I am planning for the worst but hoping for the best when it comes to cash.

Kind of distressing to hear about yet another frame failure. How many is that now 3 or 4?

I guess you could argue that at least on this bike it was being subjected to a lot more abuse than the typical street ridden bike gets.

Just as an aside,on my SV-650, the same area on the frame is much, much more robust looking. This is on a bike with less than 1/2 the horsepower and 100 lbs less weight.
