Pain in the hips.

Yo !

So I've been riding for 24 years now. In the last 5 years I've been experiencing pains in my right hip mostly. Not in both hips. The pain is mostly on top of the leg/hip joint, right about where the little pocket is on Levi's.

It gets so bad at times that when I come to a stop I cant lift my right foot off the peg to place on the ground. When I do manage to do it I get a searing pain around the same spot that shoots down my leg as I put my foot on the ground.

I thought at first this was due to the small distance between the peg and seat on my last bike, Ducati 996. The new ZX-14 has 2 more inches (from 16 to 18) from the seat to the peg. From there I isntalled 3/4 inch Heli Risers, and then the Buell pegs which lowered my foot another inch.

The problem still happens! Ugh.

Last night at bike night two guys were talking, describibng the SAME pains I had. They resolved it by buying new rearsets on their bikes which moved the peg UP (?) and BACK.

UP ? WTF ... Have I been going the wrong direction with my pegs?

One guy explained it as due to the way he was sitting on his butt, the pressure of his leg was causing the hip joint pain.

With the new Up/Back pegs it changes the angle of his leg and got rid of his hip pain.

Anyone experience this yet? And if so how did you resolve it?

TIA,

... Bonzai

Ps. If you have links to adjustable rearsets, please share.

Actualy try this, might sound stupid but try it.... if its on your right side I would almost bet you keep your wallet in your right rear pocket... when you go to set down for work or what ever, take your wallet out of your pocket... try it for a week and see what that does... GL

+1

When I first started working out and my butt muscles got bigger I started getting the pain described - ditched the wallet and cured it.

I think I heard something about sitting on wallets.

I'm sitting on mine right now while at work. Is having our wallets in our back pockets while we sit bad for our backs? Just curious. I'll have to ask my chiro this Tuesday.

George has serious pain on his right side because of a fat wallet...(Seinfeld). Wallet's gotta go...[ ]

Stand up often on the pegs while riding and stretch...that makes a huge difference!

I ran into the same problem with 2 pairs of cuff cases and cuffs on my belt.....directly lined up with the siotic (sp?) nerves on both sides of my lower back. I started carrying my cuffs on either hip and the pain stopped. Seems that when I sat down, the cuffs were causing pressure, which I never seemed to notice, and that in turn caused me lower back pain.

I usually don't ride with my wallet. I also notice that I don't have as much leg/knee fatigue as other riders (I always see everyone flexing their legs out to either side and wiggling their legs and ass around on their seats. I am 6' 7" and have noticed very minimal, usually none, while riding my bike for extended periods. I usually can spool of a couple of hours before stopping to walk around, etc. If I have my wallet in my pocket, I have noticed I get a "hot spot" that just seems to annoy me more as time goes on.

I get a charlie horse in my hips when riding.
It gets so intense the only thing I can do is stand up on my pegs...
Cops dont like it but it relieves alot of pain.

Is this what you are suffering from?

If so take a anti Inflammatory pill.
I find it takes the edge off when riding.

I switched to a small front pocket wallet over a year ago.
I carry only the things I need now, not a bunch of useless junk.
Hard to believe I sat on that wallet for so many years.

Anyways, I still get a little pain in my left hip like you describe too.
I usually just stand up and stretch out if needed.

What do those look like? I'm due for a new wallet. Mine is 3 years old and wearing holes through it.

+1 I suffer the same pain from time to time but it happens after riding for more than two hours without stopping. No sitting on wallet in my case, so maybe it's time to go to the doctor gets some X-rays and see what's going on there. What I do is to stop for 10 or 15 minutes, walk around the bike and then keep riding, if you can't stop, then carefully stand on the pegs till pain goes away.
Good Luck.
