The 06 for sure...if the motor blows up, you can buy a newer-used one for less than $3700??? right?? If the motor is fine, then you just saved yourself $3700 and can spend it on all the upgrades your little heart desires.....

just my 2 cents

Buying the 2006 bike makes sense if you are doing what most owners do, that is replacing the standard exhaust with a 4:1 system, removing the secondary butterflys and setting it up with a Power Commander. When you've done that the differences between your bike and a 2008 model are very small. Certainly not $3,700 worth of difference.

06, uncork it as Bobc said, and put $2000 inyour pocket,
that, or bolt up a turbo... for little more than the price of the 08!

60 miles on an 06?? That's nothing! Get the 06. Throw on a pipe, pc and remove the secondary flies and you're golden. There's more difference with an 06 set up that way versus a stock 08 than you think.

yup, I haven't seen any information leading to conclude that an o8 uncorked is any faster than the 06 uncorked, virtually identical power,

most of the changes to the 08 were for emissions... get the06

hell, tell ya what,
if you don't buy the 06, pm me the contact info... I'll throw you a couple hundered bones for finders fee! If I buy it!
what color is it?

Hi there,

Just going off information I have seen on the net before I bought my ZX-14 lead me to the same logic you had stated. I think an 06 with mods and an 08 with the same mods produce the same power. (Except the red ones.)

but then this baffled me because most everything I read regarding the Euro-III emission changes to the 08 revealed it had more power due tot he changes. I quote ...

quote:
To meet noise standards, the engineers focused on reducing internal mechanical noise instead of muzzling the exhaust system. The result wasn't a power loss, but an overall improvement of the engine character and an actual increase in the ZX-14's legendary peak power! Yes, you read that correctly. Emissions and noise levels are lower, peak power is higher, the mid-range hit is stronger and smoother and low-end torque has been increased. A win-win solution for all, in our books.

And to make a comment on topic with this thread and having an 08 myself .... buy the 06.

$6600......damn - my insurance just gave me over $7500 for my totaled bike w/ 14K miles.....even after taking out the $825 salvage. That is CHEAP - you would be nuts to pass on it unless it has a hidden problem.

The 06 in 3 years would only depreciate a thousand maybe? The 08 on the other hand would be more. 06 all the way!

once you rip the exhaust off it, really the only changes are the air injection ports( emissions) new injectors,
and the ecu opens flies sooner... moot if you remove them anyway

I haven't seen any dyno's with flies out and same pipe showing any discernable HP difference...

hi guys,,this is my first time writing,,,i have been reading the stuff on this forum for about a month,,,,i really think some of you guys know what u r talking about , i bought an 08 zx14 about a month ago,,,i want to do some basic mods,,,,,just to make the machine the way it should have been in the first place,,,i dont plan on racing it,,,how does this sound,,Brock Gen 3 ceramic coated,,PC 3, flies out,,,16 T. primary,n, mabe a 43 rear sprocket also, speedohealer,,brock clutch springs,,i hear that the flies are pretty much shut, n, the spark is retarded in the first 4 gears at a 3 to 5 thousand RPM Range,,,n should be advanced 4 degrees,,,,does the TRE do this,,or just open the fly,,,,or does it just lie to the ECU so it thinks its in 6th gear,,,,,,,,,,,,Gary

Smooth, welcome to the site, all mods listed will work well, do not bother with the TRE, Just remove the flies and re-map with power commander. You will be happy with the results. Just for future reference, when inquiring on a new subject its best to start a new thread.
