Having lights off is illegal in most if not all states---unless your bike has a born on date in the mid 70's. However, I did wire mine with and on/off switch for front and back lights controlling to assist in felony evasion (when I was younger) of course.

Lights On has been a legal requirement on new bikes in Europe for a while now. I have seen new bikes at the track with the lights off but don't know if a switch has been wired in or a fuse pulled.
I don't worry about the lights on my bike, I think the 14 looks really good with it's lights on and it can't be mistaken for anything else.

Many who race bikes want to shut off the lights. Unneeded draw on the motor for running down the dragstrip during the day.

What is the power draw of those lights?
How long does it take to drain the battery?
How was the install?

Thanks,

... Bonzai

CA code says the bike must be able to stay lighted for 15 mins under battery power alone.

CA code says blue lights are illegal on anything other than a police vehicle.

That's not my bike, just an informative post to show what they look like. I do have an 08 Mettalic Blue like int he photos.

The newer 2nd generation CCFL can be found here ...

http://www.xdcycle.com/store/catalog/2007-2008-ZX6R-CCFL-Halo-2-Eyes-Rated-1-by-XDC-p-1227.html

Personally, I don't want these for operation on the road, stricly for parking lots. I'm tired at bike nights having my mirrors twisted, helmet knocked etc ...

I like the the look of the original Angel Eyes, they have that human lifelike 'iris' look to them. the newer CCFL's I think will draw too much power and be way to bright at night.

David,

I got a Xenon kit from Morepowerracing.com (MPR): http://www.morepoweracing.com/aj8cYt2512065/Sportbike/H.I.D.-Conversion-Kits/c-1-29859-26549/

It's by Goldeneye. I opted for the 6000 Kelvin HID kit. Last year MPR did a price match for me @ $189.95. You'll need to order the H11 bulb type to fit your ZX14. Installation was rather strait forward. The first night the kit arrived I spent about 1 hour removing the fairings and determining how I would install them and mount the ballasts. The next day I took my time, spliced the wiring (to make a permanent connection), soldered, and waterproofed the work. I had to use a fingernail clip to remove some excess plastic on the bulb housing, but the rep at MPR said that this was normal because the housing was universal and not specific to the ZX14. An hour after I started, I was riding. Later, I mounted the ballasts on the inside of the lower fairings.

The install is clean with no operating problems.

PM me if you need more info.
