Bike is a 4 cylinder L-4, (what ever that is) not a twin.

The 14 with an Smeg sounds better and is faster. Why waste the money?

The Ducati is a track bike, one with curves and stuff. The ZX-14 is not. You can not compare the two as they each have a forte on a different ground.

You don't take a Ducati to the drag strip and expect to beat a ZX-14, and likewise you do not take a ZX-14 to the track and expect to beat a Ducati.

For the twisties and mountains I'd take my 126hp 996 over my ZX-14 any day. For riding with my wife and longer hauls it's the ZX-14.

And since there is confusion over what a V- versus a L- is ... It's simply the angle at which each cylinder opposes the other. An L-4 means the cylinders are normally 90 degree's opposing whereas a V-4 is anything less than 90 degrees.

For a "L" with your fingers and then form a "V" ... notice the difference?

As far as Twins versus Inline 4 sounding bikes ... I prefer Twins (not Harleys) over inline 4's. The twins like Ducati's and TL-1000's make a very low sounding grumble. If you are ahead of one it's very hard tot ell they are WOT. Wherease if an inline 4 is comming at you WOT you can hear them 1/2 mile away. I call this the Cop factor. You'll catch more cops unexpected with a twin versus broadcasting your speeding with an inline 4.

It's all apples versus oranges, if it wasn't then comparing a ZX-10 to a ZX-14 would be the same.

For that price one could purchase a 14, and R1, a Bullit Mustang, and still spend a week in the Bahamas with a servant or two.

For some reason people put an added "aura" around anything that is expensive whether it is worth it or not. I'm sure BMW's added 10 grand to their price tag just for the logo on the hood, Ferrari, maybe $30k for theirs. At least in a car, you can visually see the value as the car sits in front of you. On this Ducati, however, value is hidden under the fairings, so unless you are familiar with this bike as it sits in front of you, it looks like any other 10K motorcycle. Now if the bike goes on to win trophies on every racetrack it perfoms or hits 200 at Bonneville, then it will develop a "name" but until then, to me it is just another Landrover-- I wish them luck with sales.

One other thought-- if a person buys this bike, he will have the suttle urge to prove himself on the streets. Since he can't keep the price tag on his handlebars for all to see, I have a feeling he's going to run it fast and take chances to justify the price tag. It could become a real accident bike--

I think the bike wil be bought by the same type of people that buy exotic cars that can get out performed by a much less expensive ZO6. They have the money to burn and they want to own something that no one else will have. Im guessing they will putz to and from the bike hangout just like the guy in front of me in his Porshe Turbo going 45 in a 65.
