60 foot 1.55.2

330 4.013

1/8 mile 5.99.0 @ 122.96

1/4 mile 9.18.3 @ 152.33

If i had left it that way and had a few more trys i think i could have got it a bit lower ...

Thanks guys, but Smokin will always be the king. Can't wait to see what he gets out of that new zx10. Hey Smokin try -2+2 on your gearing for the 10, you'll need it to get the drive off the line your looking for, on my 04 10 I ran that gear and went through the traps at the top of sixth gear in the 1/4.

Thanks Fast.....I'm testing a 15 tooth this weds night and see what it gets me .... Like you said it may need more gear than that but i like doing one change at a time to see what it gives me ...

Wow, a 15 tooth, is the stock gearing that out of whack that you might need MORE than a 15 tooth?????..............also, what is your thought process for going with a 15..........are you going with it because it is a cheap gauge of what the optimal gearing is, or are you after max wheelbase, or is that what most dragracers are using.

BTW, i'm not questioning you here, just trying to understand your thinking process because that kind of surprised me, i figured +1/-1 ............lucky you went to 62 inches or that thing would be standing up in the first 3 or 4 gears with that gearing.

Well mike the zx10 goes about 103 in first gear Vs 80 MPH on a zx14 ...Now add the fact that the zx10 has NO torq.....The zx10 was not built to drag race like the zx14 , it was built for roadracing and has no need for a low first gear ...

The guys i see going fast in the 1/4 mile are geared 16/45 or lower so a 15/41 tooth will get me very close to that number .....You got to understand i'm still in first gear way passed the 330 mark and my zx14 i'm in second gear before i get to the 330 mark ..

After you get out of first on the zx10 the gears are real close ratio so not to fall out of the power band 9700 to 13000..

Right now a 15 tooth is much cheaper than a rear gear and if it does work i will reinstall the 16 tooth and add a few teeth to the rear ..

Mike i kind of have an idea of what makes the liter bikes work for drag racing but i don't have all the answers yet ...I'm sure it's different for every rider or bike just as it is for the zx14 .. This is what i have been doing to cars and bikes for 34 years is to find out what works and what doesn't and i really injoy doing it...

Thanks Smokin............i heard the 10's have real tall 1st gears and real close ratios for the rest of the gears........just never thought the gearing was that off for drag racing.

I'm interested in hearing how this project goes...........from my experience at the strip that includes both racing and watching the 10's........the Zx 10's and GSXR 1000's are all pretty competitive with the 14's to where it came down to rider skill and/or consistency..................whereas at least from my somewhat limited experience the R1's, honda 1000's and 1st gen Busa's werent competitive with fairly equal riders..............at my crappy track i never lost to a Busa, R1, or Honda 1000..........but split with the other 14's, Zx 10's and GSXR's pretty regularly.

Smokin and Wheelie, just curious, could you give me a ballpark of how much you think i'd gain by going from stock wheelbase and stock height to about 62 inches and lowered slightly..................I kind of want to get as fast as i can with stock wheelbase then stretch it..............thinking of going to about 62 inches and maybe getting cams and head porting late this year or early next year.

Didnt you go from like a 9.18 to an 8.80 when you went to 62 inches Smokin or did you add a pipe and gearing as well to get the 8.80?

being that you are a lighter rider, you can get away with a shorter wheelbase "62 inches" but I would suggest 64 inches, you can 60' harder. I went from stock wheelbase and lowered 6.15 seconds 1/8th mile to 5.85 1/8th, at 64 inches.

62 inches worked the best for me ..I had my best ever all motor pass at 62 ..I'm at 64 now but it doesn't go any faster ...I added the extra 2 inches because of the spray but really don't need it for just motors passes ....I got about the same gain as wheelie did ... 5.99 to 5.70 going to 62 inches ....
If you go to 62 you will need to add some gear ...A 16 front sprocket worked for me ...

My fastest 1/8 mile times were 5.6 & 5.9 but I will have to look for my time slips to give you mph. I lowered the 14 1.5 inches front & rear,TRE,16 tooth Vortex front sprocket, full Muzzy exhaust,no flies, wheelie strap,PC3,Dunlop Race qualifier, stock wheel base & dyno tested.
