Aprillia RSV Mille
A good friend of mine has a 2001.5 Mille that has a nice little grocery list of goodies that he's done to it. The bike has 10,000 miles on it, and is in great condition. Has anyone on here had a chance to ride with any of these bikes or actually gotten any seat time on one? I've got the chance to buy it for $4,000, and i'm seriously considering fighting my wife for it lol. I figure i probably won't ever find another track bike candidate that's any better for 4 grand.
So what do you think?
Deal, or no Deal?

Remember it's a 7 year old bike, have a look round and see what they are selling for. Aprilia's are an acquired taste, love them or hate them. In the real world it's not a lot quicker than a good 600 but will make a great track-day bike. I guess it depends on what goodies are on the bike and whether you think it's good value.
Me ? I like them.

Also check for parts availability, both maintenance and cosmetic. Around here that is a problem.

Apillia Mille impressions...
Bawls:
I have a good bud here in Florida who is a devout Aprilla nut with a '05 Mille currently. This bike sounds awesome with a good set of pipes installed. He has had several and I rode his last one ('03 RSV). As BobC noted, it is a different "flavor". V-twin torque vs. the inline-4 rev thing. That said, the handling was sublime for my riding style. To me, it felt like a "bicycle" with it's light feel and turn-in characteristics. Just have to watch that corner entry speed because the V-twin's are deceptively fast. Never "felt" like I was "blasting" and then, you turn-in 10 MPH faster than it seems. Had fun stepping out the rear exiting corners with all the low end torque.
Lows: major heat off the engine in any kind of slow/normal riding, the clutch feel/gearbox are very different (coarse?) versus a Japanese bike and the Brembo's need some heat in them to generate feedback like I am used to, but major stopping power. Part's and maintenance....it's Italian. There you have it...my 2 cents. Hope that helps.

The bike has an Akrapovic exhaust, after market air, ohlins rear shock, a tune, integrated turn signals and a few other things. I've seen a few around and they seem to hold their value pretty well. there are anywhere from 01's to 04's and they're all going for about 7,500 to 8,500 dollars. I know that they're like Ducati's and are more show than go, but they're supposed to handle really well. I guess i'll just have to ride it and see what i think of it. I was always a huge fan of the v twin bikes. Got quite a bit of seat time on an RC51 and a TLR a while bike and really liked both of them.

Sounds like you are already 1/2 sold..
Bawls:
If you like the other V-twins you have ridden, I'd bet you will like the handling on the RSV. You called it, throw a leg over it, go shred some good corners and then you'll know if it is right for you. Have fun dude and post some pics if you buy it.

Will do, I still won't be back from deployment until summer but i'm going to start sweet talking the wife. Who knows, maybe she'll let me buy that for myself as a re-enlistment present. If i don't buy it, I'm going to try to talk my dad into getting it. Then i can have it to ride when i go back to Texas.
