My second 14 that is consuming oil

I am new here and wanted to see if anybody has experienced an oil consumption issue. My 06 14 was burning 1 quart every 600 miles and now I have an 07 that has burned 1 quart in 1,500 miles. Kawasaki is saying that 1 quart in 1,000 miles is acceptable. The 07 is completely stock.

I second that Bryant. I use less than half a quart every 1000 with combined cruising/high speed riding on my 06. Sounds like you got the infamous leaking valve cover gasket issue. Use the search function to find how to check for it and fix it.

They checked the gasket as did I and it is not leaking. My 06 had bad rings. It did have 25K miles in just over 1 year and I do run at very high speeds but can't believe that 1quart in 1k miles is acceptable.

it is not acceptable.
I would run 2000 miles between oil and tire changes, and the oil level did not appear to drop at all.
the airbox was misted a bit from highspeed extended 7-8000 rpm cannonball riding, as the crank vent was still in airbox, but I always ran oil levels to the top of the sight glass....
nitrous and aggressive riding...

I made 3000 mile twisty spirited riding trips and it averaged 7000 rpm with many many ( iw ould guess hundreds of jaunts to 10-11000 rpm and it still was 3/4 up the sight glass.

I rode the bike with average speed over 150 mph for 2 hrs once, and oil level never seemed to drop at all.

Don't get me wrong, I rode it hard but never hurt it, intentionally or otherwise.

Oh, and the kawi break in sucks.
I use moto tune method...

man boy-howdee how many more oil threads are we going to see in here? I was the first to report, and after Kawi had my bike and attempted to repair so many times, I sold it. Heads up though, everyone makes lemons, and all the Kawi's I've had with no probs I'm not complaining. And I loved the 14!

the day after I got back from Deal's Gap I saw oil on the left fairing againand dumped it. Who knows maybe i road it harder than it could "handle" at the Gap, pics of it on the Gap ridden are here: http://www.bikeland.org/board/viewthread.php?FID=8&TID=35917&set_time=1201666921

Here is the "original" thread, I eventually gave up and sold it after being confident it was fixed all those times: http://www.bikeland.org/board/viewthread.php?FID=27&TID=26799

My 06 oil level never seems to go down at all and I beat it the same as anyone would. Change the oil about every 2000 miles with Actevo. The best motorcycle oil and change interval is still raging after I was absent from the scene for about 17 years - somethings never change. Mine even seeps out of the valve cover. I checked that after seeing the threads on here. No engine knock either. Did I miss any other common problems? Oh yeah my gas tank has that characteristic dent on the left side. Also while I'm at it tell the Hayabusa guys its a 13.5 just like the 1052cc ZX11 was a 10.5. And there is no storage under my seat either. I wouldn't want any other bike.

I agree, a quart in 1000 miles is not acceptable. My bike has not needed any oil between oil changes. Since the break-in period it's been running on Rock Oil 5W 30 full synthetic, It's done maybe a hundred top speed runs and a couple of dozen runs on the dyno as well as road riding. The level has not dropped at all. It could be a leak.

I've read plenty of threads of the 06-07s that seep oil from the valve cover, I wouldn't classify a seep as a leak as no dripping on the floor or noticeable oil loss. However it is coming from the valve cover I understand shimming up the bolt head or new bolts solves the problem but its so minor I'll get to it at some point when the fairings are off. I agree its a little uncharacteristic of Japanese bikes to have any engine that seeps or leaks oil at all.

my zx12 had a leaking valve cover gasket w/1500 miles. I've put 10K miles on the 14 and no issues. If you're losing that much oil, you've got an issue---its just not normal. I'd go back to the dealer and have that kawi-tech put that in writting. i call BS!

just curiuos, but what weight oil do you use.
