had another idea, not sure if its worth the trouble, but if you dont have enought room for an intercooler(you will probably want a big one) what about an oil cooler?. but... if its track only, will you be keeping the headlights? that would free up room too..... at least put the battery up there if you arent running a slick n bars. batterys arent considered ballast

Smokin, i'm really looking forward to hearing the dyno and dragstrip results of this project............also what do you think it will be be like to ride a 285 horse beast, do you think there will be a fairly quick learning curve like mostly getting it to hook and learning the otimum launching RPM..........or because its a turbo with high rpm boost will the launch be essentially about the same?

Thanks, for all the great info you post and goodluck to you and Teddy!

We are hoping that leaving the motor with High compression that it will 60 foot like it did before the turbo .... We have been told by Dave that this turbo comes on very soft and builds slowly as the RPMs rise .. He said it has a very soft hit and is very easy to ride .... He told me one of the guys that he did a turbo kit for had run 6.10 ( 1/8 mile ) on his zx14 with the stock motor ... With the turbo he has run 5.40s @ 141 Without wheely problems ..
I have had a bunch of turbo bikes over the years so i may have a leg up on making one go fast ...Jesse on the other hand has not had anytime on a turbo bike so he will have to learn the ins and outs of turbo power ..

Lucky for us both our tracks have very good prep and hooking even for the big HP bikes seems not to be a problem ....The plane sounds good doesn't it ? But as well all know rarely things go as we wished ... Smokin....

What would that 1/4 at then?

Wow!
thats really cool!
his trap speed is what most gusy were running on motor in the 1/4!
Nice!

I am eagerly anticipating some dyno and track data from Lee on this one!

Just a little update ....The tuner don't want to dyno the bike without a fuel PSI Gauge and boost Gauge....I can't say i blame him because without all the info needed to tune a turbo bike your not going to get a proper tune up ... We ordered the gauges a while back and jesse just got them today ...He spent all day making brackets to mount them in a good location .. It should be going on the dyno Tuesday ...Sorry for the delay guys ... Smokin..

I went round and round with an intercooler maker and we decided that it was a no go...it would not fit anywhere reasonable so I decided on water/meth injection....then calculated that I didn't need anything for under 9psi.....and several bikes have proven it :-)

Just to let you guy know what is taking so long ...

We have had a problem with the Adams oil pan ... When i got the pan for Jesse it came with NO paper work ...The pan was warped from the welding but i was able to install it with out having any leaks for being badly out of shape ... Jesse had the bike on the dyno and as soon as it hit boost it puked oil out of the breather ....So today Jesse made a call to Adams and found out that not only did it need a shorter oil pickup it needed the vent tube that runs down the side of the pickup tube needs to be cut down ....We had the shorter pickup installed but were unaware that we needed to cut the breather tube ....
The breather tube is so long that with the cut down pan it was stuck down into the oil , this causes oil to be pumped up the breather tube and out of the bike ... So the pan came back off today and had 2 inches cut off the tube and the pan reinstalled ....The bike fired up and no more oil puking ( so far so good )........The bike goes back on the dyno first thing Thursday and with any luck we will be at the track Thursday night test and tune ....Jesse said he would email me the dyno sheet as soon as he has it in his hands .... Smokin...

P/S Teddy my bike is loaded and ready to go for Thursday night ...You coming ???

Just a heads up....Having been through several of those little black evac pumps, DON'T run 15w50, the viscosity is too high the torque rating of the 12v motor. I have talked the engineer of the supplying company, they will over heat and melt. Resulting in horrible oil clouds out the pipe.
Some tips, a) ALWAYS, Always carry a spare evac pump, there only $80-90. B) Don't try starting the bike in Temps under 55 degrees, oil viscosity too thick and the pump will burn up even bore the engine warms up. C) 10w-40 MAX oil viscosity, preferable 5W30 D) Expect 5000-6000 miles max life before pump wears out.
Just trying to save you some grief.....

If Jessie calls me later and says it's ready ........Oh hell I can't. Valentine's Day you know. The wife would have me in a nut vise. The Adams pan was the modified stock pan. It was warped all to hell. He need's to bolt them down to a flat plate before he starts welding on them to help minimize warpage.

That's very good advise gpz. We have been installing forced induction for just over thirty yrs . I won't use these type kits anymore, IMO your where being very conservitive with the problems that arise with these systems that sit lower than the pan. I have set back an read all the turbo's being installed and the new kits coming out, and wondered if some of them where going to figure this out!! I'm not singling out any one kit, and wont say here which ones we sell but you definetly want to keep an eye on these evac pumps and the oil and oil weights you use. bill....

Thanks for the heads up .... I hate them damn little pumps ... My last turbo bike I ran a Holley Red pump... If we have problems with this pump that came with the kit ( i'm sure we will) I will swap it out with a real pump ..

As far as the oil I allways run 15W50 in all my turbos bike and unlike others i have not had one turbo motor blow up ...No spun bearings either ... Smokin ...
