Cycle World Shootout Results. 14verseBusa
Well, at least Cycle World was able to get both bikes solidly in the 9's, though according to them the 14 LOST power from the 2006 zx14. Here is what they said:
STATS: ZX-14 -------- STATS: Hayabusa
Weight: 537 lbs --------- Weight: 552
0-60: 2.6 seconds --------- 0-60: 2.6 seconds
1/4: 9.79 @ 144.47 -------- 1/4: 9.75 @ 147.02
HP/TQ: 163.7 hp/ 103.7 tq -------- HP/TQ: 173.4 hp/ 103.9 tq
Summary: Power was matched until 7K on the dyno. For some reason the 14 died off sooner than previous tested 14's of years before. Kawi had better feedback, brakes, comfort, and high speed wind protection. Also had noticeably less vibrations and was smoother overall.
Here is there quotes for Busa:
Ups: quickest production bike ever.
Hip-hop styling, tip-top performance.
legendary reputation.
Downs: Longish reach to bars.
Engine can be buzzy.
No faster than a ZX-14.
Here is the quotes for the ZX-14:
Ups: Now has grunt in every gear.
Silky-smooth runner.
Strong brakes.
Downs: Midnight Sapphire paint shows dirt and scratches.
lacks storage space.
No faster than a Hayabusa.
(Yes, I know, pretty worthless crap to write... these guys have linguistic diarhea)
Final paragraph:
"There's no doubt that Suzuki has reclaimed its position as the performance leader when it comes to top-dog bragging rights with an amazing powerplant and smoking quarter-mile time. But when it comes to picking the perfect partner for a night on the town or several days on the road, there's not a better balance of power, finesse, smoothness and grace than the Kawasaki ZX-14. Cha cha cha!"

From the gyst of the language and superfluous comments, it was very obvious these guys dont hold either the 14 or Busa in much regard. They kept making stupid comments about things like the paint scratching, damper adjustment (rear) that the toolbox screwdriver couldnt reach, the lack of storage in the 14 cowl, etc.. They didnt even bother doing a road coarse.
Not even sure they took then anywhere but the drive to the drag strip.

Those KHI guys in the white lab coats made just enough "Power Under Peak" to match the Eye Abusea and meet emissions - noise levels. Seems they left some power to be had by good aftermarket tuning. I'm sure they have a sly grin when asked how it will run uncorked!

I'm surprised magazines have reported the 14 dies off around 9250 RPM because its set too rich out of the box. Too rich, according to one mag, does not benefit emissions.
It appears again Kawi has let Suzuki win as the dominant bike on showroom floors.

Well, screw it. I LOVE my 14. And Im glad its still fairly rare to see another one. I see Busa's everywhere, however, and most of which are squid-ridden, too. Think I'll stay on /this side of the RR tracks.

If you believe they like the Kawasaki better, apparently you missed the Feb addition of cycle world.

Cycle World Magazine- February 2008 Edition, page 33
"Hayabusa by the Numbers: KING of the Dyno/QUICKEST in the Quarter"
The significance of this is whether it is true or false...... SUZUKI has the edge in the sales department with the aid of these top magazines giving praise. Suzuki always stays on top regarding performance on the sales floor.

Sounds like the bikes are evenly matched with the 14 having a bit more refinement. I bet when Brock gets done with the new 14 diaries the cork will be taken out of the top end. It does seem like they mapped it for a pipe from the factory.

LOL!!! Most Busa riders around here didn't even know that Kawasaki built anything bigger than the ZX12. People come up to me all the time and ask, "What is that, a 1000"?
I guess it doesn't help that I'm built like RedSnake2 . . . . .except 3" less in height.

There's a reason the new 14 isn't as fast...
...there isn't a red one.
All hail the 06 RED ZX-14.
RED is the fastest.
