Honest Opinions Please

I purchased a 2007 ZX-14 and I absolutely love it, I want to trick it out a bit, this is what I have planned tell me if I am going to have any major issues still riding two up if I do.

PCIII-usb
Brocks 4-2-1 SMEG
Brocks Map
Remove Flys
Roaring Toyz Swingarm extender package
Corbin Dual Saddle w/oval back rest
Corbin Peg lowering kit
Fender Elim Kit
Heli Risers

My major question is when riding two up with the extender/lowering kit will I rub? I am roughly 190lbs and the wife is 130lbs. We also would like to tour on this and if lowering/extending this will cause major issues with two up and luggage then maybe I shouldn't do it. I know there is lots of information out there that you all possess. One more thing If I add a quickshifter from power commander I am assuming I will need a bottle of compressed air mounted somewhere is this a valid assumption?

i have mine stretched about 5 over. Im 250 and my wife 155. I have mine in the second hole on the lowering links. I bought a heavy duty coil from race tech. They go by your weight. I tighten the coil. They bike sits lower because the coil is shorter than the stock one. It doesnt scape at all. I also had my welder weld me a plate on the bottom of my oil pan. I suggest you do this first before lowering it. Some companies sell pans for it already. Doing this will save you a headache and money spent on oil.

Thank you for your input, by plate what do you mean? Is it removable so you can get to the drain plug? Would you be willing to post a pic so that I can see? Again thanks for your help.

unless your 6 feet or taller, you will not like the corbin seat, as the shape of it causes you to sit even further away from the clip ons. their service unless you are local to their factory stinks too..
I made an expensive mistake of buying one.
check out zx14ninja.com for some of the statement of others and corbin products.

Listen to Dubious on the seat issue! It would be nice to have a backrest for your passenger but you probably won't be happy with the seat yourself... I had the same thoughts as you but thankfully I changed my mind and decided not to purchase the corbin seat. Get creative and build your own removable backrest, that's what I'll do someday. As for lowering & extending it ??? If I was going to spend a lot of time riding 2-up I wouldn't sacrifice the stock handling characteristics. Now you don't have to worry about making mods to the oil pan to prevent damaging it, if you don't lower or stretch your bike. Maybe go to a 200 sport tire on the rear when you wear out the stock 190 if you're wanting a tricked out look... although this too will change the handling, but not near as much as lowering & stretching it. As for the Heli-risers, pm me... I may have a like new set for sale soon.

I have already made a backrest made for the stock seat, but am looking for something more passenger friendly, maybe I will have to call or contact Tobin and see if they can tool up my old seat. I don't think I will be spending a bunch of time riding two up but I definitely want the option. The problem I am having is that I am 5' 7" with a 30" inseam. Hard to hold the bike up with a rider when your on your toes all the time.

Well lowering it will feel a lot better to you for sure due to your height & inseam.

I hope you don't plan on having any fun in the twisties. You'd be hitting the pegs on the ground for sure, but the extended swingarm would make it hard to lean it over anyway.
I hit my toes on the ground with my stock height bike.

But then, why the flies out and air shifter? Drag race?, Why the raised bars?

Maybe focus on what you plan on using the bike for and get it dialed in for that type riding.

I suppose you are just doing some straight line type long distance riding. My boss likes his Councourse for that.

I like the stretched look, I am short hence the lowering, I haven't decided on the air shifter, that may come later but I am more of a straight line speed kinda guy, If I wanted to really be in the twisties I would have bought a more nimble bike. I probably would have looked at the concours but I had already bought the 14. Yes I think it will be more of a dual purpose drag/tour bike, kinda want the best of both worlds. Don't know if that is possible though.

I have both bikes -- the C14 seat is ugly on the C14; I can imagine it on the ZX14...

lowering the pegs for your height would be a waste of money.

I think I actually owned the seat Dubious sold....for about 1 minute. It sucked, I know the seat has changed hands about 4 times. I hated it. Just completely wrong shape for the 14.
The C14 seat will just make the seat higher and you wont be able to use the passenger seat cover. If anything, cut it down or have Tobins do it for you.

You may want to consider an electric shifter. just my opinion.

Buy those risers from a member here to save a few bucks. If you don't like them, they're easy enough to sell to someone else.

Drag-Touring Bike? Absolutely, thats my set-up. You'll want to upgrade you spring if you extend it though. I recommend getting adjustable links and adjustable kickstand. I like the fact that I can set it up to race or tour without removing the links or dealing with the kickstand.

BTW, a fender eliminator kit is a RIP-OFF. If you're fairly inclinded to tools, you can accomplish the same look for a few bucks. Two "L" shaped brackets from Lowe's and a small LED from Autozone to keep it legal. black RTV and a couple pennies to plug the holes. Grand total of maybe $6.o2.

As for the drainplug, if you lower it, mod the oilpan. I shredded mine putting it on a trailer. By far the first mod I should have done.
