Drag Racing Gearing 16/41 or 17/44
I weigh about 200 pounds fully suited and was wondering what the best gearing for me is going to be. The bike will be stretched out about 6". Thanks guys

I ran -1 in front and +2 in the rear when I ran on motor. That was at 65" wb, I am about 10 lbs lighter but I think we would be pretty close. Great looking bike, mine is red as well, I am in the middle of putting together a bike race in Muncie, Indiana. They have a freshly paved track now. Hope to see you there.

I would go with 16/42, i think its perfect for both the street and the drag strip.

Is 16/42 that much different from going up to a 44 in the back and leaving the front sproket alone??

16/42 is a little more gearing than 17/44 and should give a little more acceleration and snap but they are pretty close the ratios are 2.62 vs 2.59..............also you can run the 1642 with a stock chain, while you will need to replace the chain to run 17/44.

Actually 16/42 is closer to 17/45 than 17/44.

I run a 17/45, then swap the 18t when I go on road trips.

Man you guys are running some serious gearing. I ran 16/42 until the last race usually low 5.80s @ high 123 mph but kept hitting the rev-limiter going through the traps. I changed it to 16/41 and went my 5.79 (twice) and finally 5.77 @124.66 at around 10600 rpm. I'll find out when Commerce opens how it's doing in the 1/4th.

I'm a big fella, need all the gear I can get. Hell, I'd rin a 1 tooth on the front if it helped.
