07 14 or 08 14?????

Still would like to pick up a zx14 but I can get an amazing deal on a 07 black with 1467miles. I can't tell at this point if there is alot of difference in the 07 and 08. Initally I was reading that there was. 3500 savings in the decision here.

It just depends if you want the most hp and quickest time at the track mod for mod the 08 will probably be around 5 to 7 hp stronger. if your mostly street riding get the 07 it's a dam good bike as well. put an exhaust and pwr commander on it and remove the flies and you still 2000.00 ahead.

For a savings of $3500.00, its a no-brainer, get the 07 and sacrifise about 6 HP, which in the real worls you would'nt notice anyway

for the $3500 you save that is a good deposit on a turbo. Then you can smoke a 08 for sure

07 vs 08

Duncan,

I vote for the '07. The bike is just getting to the break-in point...basically still a new bike. The money you will save you can do substantial mods. Je drop in pistons and maybe some cams. This will more than make up the 5 - 8 hp difference. If you want to go all out as someone has already mentioned you can use the $3500 as down payment on a turbo. Whatever you decide you can't go wrong. Have fun and Be Safe !!

Bently,

Can you explain your reasoning please? Why will the 08 bike be several bhp better when all the standard bits have been replaced with a decent four-into-one system, secondaries removed and the bike set up with a Power Commander on a dyno?

I'm not criticizing, just want to know why. I am trying to decide whether to trade my 06 bike in for an 08 too and at the moment the main differences I can see are to do with emissions and have no effect on peak power. I know the injectors are different but not 5 to 7 bhp different.

Go for the 07, I just picked up a diablo black 07 2 weeks ago, the dealer had two '08's, a sapphire blue and a silver, that I liked, but I also loved the black '07, and it was $9300 out the door! A savings of over 2 grand right there. I personally dont care about the 6 extra HP of the '08, I can make that up with a pipe change. As for the extra low end grunt, a simple flies out mod will take care of that. My bike is stock, no mods yet, but they will come soon.. Some pics of my ride....

I've rolled on the 3 '08 14s and have pulled all of them with my '06. I figured I ride a little better then them but we rolled on from 2nd and 3rd gears with the same results. Silver08 on this site and myself are going to try them out , then we'll change bikes since he's about 30 lbs heavier than me.

One issue no one addressed, is possible frame problems. Some (very small %) 06 - 07 frames have failed. While its speculation on my part, I believe this is why Kawasaki changed the manufacturing process on the 08 frames. I think the likelihood of an 08 frame failing should be considerably less. Just something else to consider, and just my .02.

Please, the frame "failures" on the 06 and 07 bikes have been what, 2 frames? The frames did not fail by themselves, I bet those riders were doing wheelies or stoppies, long burnouts, and the like, no matter what they say. These 550 pound bikes are not meant for stunting, your not riding a 375 pound machine here. If there was real, consistent issue with the frames failing on these bikes, Kawasaki would have issued a recall already, no company in the world will allow that to happen and risk a class action lawsuit from thousands of customers who have been injured fom their products. After hearing about the frame issue o this and other forums, I check my 14 regularly for frame damage and have never seen any, and I never will, because I dont stunt on my bike!

There's no difference in them except colors. The 08's have already been tested by at least 3 major mags I've heard of and they're making the same hp as the 06-07. Plus stock the 08 weighs 11 lbs more than the first 2 years. Most definately get the 07 and save 3500 bucks lol
