Street Gearing ?

Was torn between 16/43 or 17/44 gearing and was wondering if my weight would factor in my selection. I'm 6'5" in the 280's and was thinking that a 16 front might strain more or wind out faster due to my size?I did search but most of the gearing is for strip and most peps don't post weight.
Thanks
P

I use 16/43's on the street, don't do the strip either. I weigh 220@6'2" . I love the power I get from this thing; yes it winds out quicker, but makes no difference; you're just shifting more often. On the other hand, you can always start in 2nd in the city. It has way more than enough grunt to do that. I'm changing my sprockets on my 08 now, for the 16/43's. That's now much I loved what it did for my 06. Derfinitely won't strain out more; if anything, less strain due to more revs and being in your powerbamd all the time now, but the speedo will be way off and a Speedo Healer won't work with that gear setup and your GPS indicator, so you'd have to live with that.

Now I am a strip guy but can tell you this. I am 128 now at 5'9" and I was running 16/43 gearing. My boy MRCLEAN was running 16/42 gearing and I told him to change it finally he went to a 16/43. He is like 6'4" and damn near 300 lbs! He ended up running some 6.1s in the 8th which is impressive. He is getting faster and faster everyday and on the street he is moving as well with now problems. Yes he winds up faster but the bike still pulls hard all the way to the speed restristor! if he tricks it, I'm sure it would continue to pull him! Like I said, the bike is still pulling when it gets shit off!

i love the 16/43 also. ive run away from guys on the highway. I have the speedohealer and pull it to the rev limiter. The bike will not go 190 on top. Youll pull any regular geared bike to their top speed for a short time. Its strange, stock gearing on top feels slow to the lower top 16/43. Ive driving 400miles on this gearing also. I love it.

I went down one and up two on my TL1000R which made a HUGE difference on it, and that bike was meant for the street and backroads cornering. Was the best upgrade I ever did. Plan on doing a 16/43 myself this spring on the 14. So what if you lose 15-20mph on the theoretical top end, how often do you go there?

I have geared...17/43..16/43 ...and 16/42 in an atempt to find the ideal gearing for me. I'm 6'4 300lbs and twistys with long sweepers is my fun. 16/42 is where I settled.
Here are some ratios for ya
17/41 stock 2.411
17/44 = 2.588
16/42 = 2.625
16/43 = 2.687

The difference between stock and 16/43 is HUGE.. Play around, gearing is the cheapest mod on these bikes. Pulling the flies Is the next.
