2008 14 in the UK now

The first 2008 1400 has arrived in our showroom in Plymouth, UK. It's a silver one and now I really have to make up my mind. Do I keep my 2006 14, still under 3000 miles and over 200mph nine times in competition, go for the 2008 model and transfer my go-faster parts to it or get that nice 2008 Hayabusa lurking at the other end of the showroom?

Has Brock, or anyone else, produced a real comparison of the two 2008 models?

:P
head, fuel injection, flies open sooner...

ok the last 2 wont matter much,
infact a 06-07 with a ported head will likely perform as good or better than a similar equiped 2008....

What will it cost you to trade up vs a ported head Bob?

Selling mine to buy an 08 zx14 has never been a consideration... a ported head has though

the zx10 looks pretty tasty too!

so the head is different huh. I take it that it flows more?Thats still not enough for me to get rid of my 06 for a 08.

I know the main difference is in the cylinder head, especially when the standard exhaust and 'flies have been removed. The thing is that in Class 2 at the 200mph club where I compete an "unopened engine" is required, they do allow exhaust and airbox modification. If I can get a head which flows 5% better and revised injectors on the 2008 bike I ought to be able to coax some more power out of it and stay within the rules. If I get the head flowed and ported I'm in Class 3 with the strokers and some seriously modded and quick bikes like Mike Grainger's 216mph ZX-12R (no gas or turbo in Class3, just engine).

Anyway, I have until May 2008 before the next meeting at Woodbridge, plenty of time to weigh it all up and make a decision. Another way forward which I was considering was to keep the 2006 bike and improve the aero's. I reckon a race seat and cutaway fuel tank would let me tuck in a lot lower and that's worth a lot of bhp. I was also thinking about fitting a race change pattern, 1 up and 5 down, which will be much quicker especially 1st to 2nd and allow me to keep my left foot tucked in. Quickshifters are not allowed. Lots of ideas going round and round in my mind.
