Extended Warranty time...yay or nay?
My 1 year anniversary of owning my ZX-14 is coming up and Kawi sent me the option to buy an extended warranty. 12 months for $429, 24 for $484, 36 for $594 and 48 for $704.
Here's the question. Do the mods I have void an extended warranty's coverage?
Secondary Flies removed
Brock's Alien Head exhaust
PC3 USB with map
What would you do?

I'm never getting anything over a 1year warranty again. I never keep them stock anyways.
Changing anything can void the warranty, but it all matters on how cool your dealership is with you. I've never had to use a warranty though. Kawasaki's are just too damn strong to get use out of a warranty.

Do a search on ebay. Theres a dealer that regularly post several factory warranty plans for several models. 4 year on the 14 was $449 or less. Anyway search and you'll find it.

it depends how long you want to keep the bike. it won't hurt to get warranty. look at this way if you decided to sell your bike, you still can cancel it and some refund back if still under extended warranty. what you need to research is what kind of warranty is that and what it covers and what kind of deductible.

I'll have to talk to the dealership I plan on taking the bike to. Advanced Kawasaki.
It's a Kawasaki extended warranty offer sent to me from Kawi.
Hey Butter, the ZX-14 isn't listed as an applicable bike in that Ebay waranty listing.

I'm with you guys. I had 40k miles on my ZX-12R. Only problem I had was of my own doing (jimmy-rigged a bad fuse).
I've got a PM to Kevin at Advanced Kawasaki. If my mods don't void a warranty, then I might spring for a 2 banger. :-/
The key word here = might.

All I gotta say...I like the peace of mind of an extended warranty. My 06 600rr has 40k on it and has eaten 3 rectifiers....that was covered under warranty each time....1 of them was under the extended and that already paid for itself...
If you ride alot....I'd say get it...If you ride a little, i'd say get it....if you ride moderately...don't bother...something shouldn't go wrong by the time you sell it or wreck it.

extended waranty worked for me on the zx12. first the clutch basket exploded.
later the engine spun the #3 rod and center main, killing the crank and cases.
Kawasaki took care of all of it. Thanks KAWI!
Every dealer is different, Find a good one and you warranty is gold.
The first dealer lied to me, wanted me to Buy a $400 basket and pay him to install it.
He told me kawasaki would not do anything for me.
I took the bike directly to another dealer who took care of everything except the oil change.
When the engine blew I found out one of the dealer filed a second basket claim on my bike . I'll bet I know which one.
So Kawi paid for 2 baskets, a crank , cases and labor all for ~$400.
you decided if it's a good deal for you.

Everything has a failure rate. Somethings higher than others.
The zx14 has a very good track record, but there have been failures.
It's insurance, $400 could save you big IF you keep your bike close to stock.

You're exactly right. And that insurance company wouldn't be in business if selling these policies didn't make them money.

They lose money and make money at the same time....there is some formula that they go by. But most companies don't count on people putting tons of miles on their bikes....of all the extended warranties they sell, maybe 10% ride their bikes A LOT. I am part of that 10%.
My 600rr has 40k and is one year old....how normal is that? I have used my warranty 3 times in the last year...I am SO happy I got the extended warranty.

Shit...if I rode 40k on one bike in a year, you can bet your ass I'm getting the extended warranty.
Most I rode my 12R in a year was about 25k miles.

The actuaries that write the warranties have determined you will most likely use less money in warranty work than the cost of the warranty. They are good at what they do. Trust them and accept the fact that for them to make money with a warranty, you must lose money on the same warranty.

They only calculate by the majority. Majority don't use the warranty and they makes lots of money....but there will always be a few that need it that benefit from it.

I guess you don't have auto, home, or health insurance either, right?
Pay a little over time, get rewarded IF you need it.
