I probed the ports made a digital model and then an overlay of the 08 and 06-07 ports in the computer and they were the same.
The air injection port in the exhaust port was made a tad larger.

King, we are at the tail end of R&D and are testing. We are trying to move this project as fast as possable but we want to make shure this design works as expected. We have tested a few ported zx14 heads from "other sources" and they have only made the same peak power and in some cases less power than the stock head.
So we want to nail this design down tight before "releasing" it to everyone.

With that said, the release date is planned for the first week of January for the final CNC program. At that time Were going to have an official announcement of the head and performance etc. But your welcome to send in the head now if you like.

I will be using JE pistons 13.5 CR, with Web Cams, will these items need to be sended will head? If not you will have my head by 2nd week in Jan., Thanks for reply.

Nope, no need to send the cams and pistons. Just tell me what the lift is on the cams so we can set the guides to the correct height for you.

Thanks

UPDATE:

We are testing a 08 zx14 with our stage 1 CNC ported head and Quantum Motorsports supersport package. This supersport package uses stock cams, bore and stroke.

We will have an official announcement on performance in a week or so as soon as the final testing and tuning is completed. And will have some 1/4 mile testing in January.

Without revealing any proprietary info or hard numbers, I'll tell you the basics. The ports have been reworked, mostly shape, but overall port volume is not much bigger. Mean port velocity has been modified and some port bias was traded off for velocity. The Min cross sectional area was modified to enhance power from 8000 rpm and up while still having more power than stock at the shift recovery rpm. Port taper was also modified to bias towards more peak power without decreasing the mean port velocity below the target air speed. The zx14 has some left to right port bias in it from the factory on cylinders 1 and 4 due to the difference in runner length and port approach to the short turn on the very outer valves. This was also modified for more balance but some bias was maintained.
Flow and velocity testing was done on a Superflow 600 and also simulated in the computer at .200" intervals down the entire port.
The valve job is part of the overall design and it modifies the approach speed to the valve with a bias built into the valve job. This was the most difficult part of the R&D on the head. Getting the balance in the valve seat profile correct was a compromise between maintaining Kawis high tumble flow separation tactics at high port velocities and good balanced full valve curtain flow at low lift to boost flow and VE at IVC.
I wish I could go into more details but.... I will say that this cylinder head was VERY challenging to work with. It's no Busa head.

Jim,what in your opinion is the big drawback in the design of the zx14 cylinder head? I have done some work on some car stuff and the term "swirl and tumble"rings a bell.A friend of mine bought a set of Pro-Filer Ray Franks designed BBC heads. While he was shopping for cylinder heads they used the term and he bought the heads with very favorable results. Is it a design flaw in the 14 head or is it Kawasaki's intention to have a cylinder head that may not be the best flowing head in cfm #'s but rather have a head that has superior "swirl and tumble"??Just curious as to your opinion...

Well, chamber mixture motion is good but if it cost retained charge then its a trade off. So if you are using the port to get the mixture in motion then you will typically see lower flow bench numbers. so you will typically get less a/f charge into the cylinder. However when a chamber with a lot of motion is touched off it burns fast and builds cylinder pressure faster requireing less spark timing advance and thus does less negative work before the piston reaches TDC. You want the peak cylinder pressure at about 10 deg. ATDC.
So with a high mixture motion design you get more power from less air and fuel. So BSFC goes down and BMEP goes up. So motion is also good for EPA requirements because the burn is more complete.
So I wouldnt say its a flaw or bad design.
But the real trick is to trade off some of that motion for flow, and try and lock more in the cylinder by getting the intake valve closed.

You must understand how the mfg deisgned their heads to how it makes the powere.
If both head designs were the same they would make the same flow numbers.

Try to find someone that understands how the designer is making the power. Flow number are not everything! If the busa head is so good, why is it that the zx12 was 100cc smaller, but made more power?

A stock 14 head flow numbers are (220 intake) and (125 exhaust)

Like I said before, it's how the designer configured the ports and how the 14 makes power.
Flow numbers don't mean anything.

Brock proved the that both bikes are around the same: Richard ran 8:99 and Chip ran a 9:00. 1 shot, 1 kill, same time, same condiditons........

It's the entire build, not just the flow numbers of the head

One of the guys who lives here in NC took his Carpenter built 1417 to Lee's Performance and it only dynoed 205. This is with the whole Carpenter package, Head port, cams, springs, 2mm J & E pistons. The works. That's disappointing.

Ok Guys, heres an update, at this point we are at 202 hp with stock pistons and cams. Our target is 210 with stock pistons and cams. So we are making a few minor changes to the MCSA and taper. I dont know if 210 is possable but thats still our target.

Testing goes on.....

spaz zx14 head made 205 or 210 with higher comp. Jim are yours with stock comp. It would be good to be able to duplicate the 197 brock got with his 14. Keep us posted.

The testing is being done by http://www.quantummotorsportsonline.com and its the SuperSport package they offer.
They can elaborate on the package details, but the compression is bumped up and the cams are retimed with our CNC ported head and a Brock street meg. pipe.

Steve and Bryan can you elaborate.....
