Horsepower Ratings

Certificate of Origin (COO) is a document that comes with each bike from the factory to the dealership. The COO lists, among other things, the peak crankshaft horsepower as measured by the manufacturer. The COO is not part of the standard paperwork you normally receive when purchasing a bike, but you can request a copy.

My local dealership has one copy each of 07 and 08 Hayabusas and ZX14s. Here are the Horsepower ratings from each bike, as listed on the COO:

MODEL YEAR 07 MODEL YEAR 08

Kawasaki ZX14 190 (SAE) 190 (SAE)

Suzuki Hayabusa 175 (SAE) 194 (SAE)

Kawasaki claims an increase in horsepower in the 08 model across the board, from low, mid-range, and top-end. Yet the COO does not back up the claimed increase in peak horsepower. I am seriously considering upgrading my 06 ZX14 to the 08 ZX14, but I am perplexed by the peak horsepower on the COO being the same for 08. Any thoughts on this?

gremlin is it a law that the Certificate of Origin has to have the correct HP number on it ? I myself would not read much into what the Certificate of Origin has to say about HP ...Smokin..

I'm hearing the same thing, but I've yet to see a true head to head.

What a load of utter bollox!

This is just brand new on SuzukiHayabusa.org and it is similar set up to Gadson's dynos with filters out and fuel. He got what? 183 and 114 with no tuning whatsoever on a bike with 100 miles?

"I went over to Eastern Cycle Performance yesterday to do some dyno testing on my 08 busa on,I want to thank Freddie Klies for his help with this test.He has a dyno-jet dyno with A/F meter, and the yosh box to tweek the stock ECU.I was trying to post the graphs but am unable to figure out how to do it at the moment, working on it,any advise would help. This is just the way I drove it in off the street with 600 miles on the clock, torco 10w-40 full synthetic oil,Shell Ultra 93 octane pump gas,box stock 173.70 hp and no air filter 174.62 hp and 105.81 torque, then we drained the pump gas and added some ERC 90 octane racing fuel and with the filter in it made 181.54 and 110.73 ft-lb of torque,we then pulled the filter back out and it made 181.79 hp and 110.54 ft-lb of torque, the last pull was back to the Shell 93 octane pump gas with with a bit of the ERC left in the tank and air filter in and it made 175.80 hp and 106 ft-lb of torque,by this time it was heat soaked pretty good.We did a total of 15 runs and Freddie tweeked the stock ECU with the yosh box to see what the bike liked and it seem it likes to be lean with the fuel in it,I should have been running 87 octane so I'm sure that shaved the pump gas number a bit, well there you have it,just waiting for Ti-Force to produce their pipe so I can get rid of that rocket launcher exhaust. Thanks again"

Seems the 08 14 has that covered

10hp my arse. You and Duncan need to inspect your nads for dementia grubs.

You cant trust the COO, my 2000 Firehawk was rated at 330hp becasue Gm will sell no car with a rating on the COO higher than the Corvette...I can tell you for a FACT, The FIREHAWK would run down Vettes and Saleen mustang wanna-beeeees...even ate-up a wanna be sport car truck called a lightning...and forgeddaboudit with the slow cobra....

FORD == found on road dead ie f***d over rebuilt dodge and don't give me "first on race day" unless youre talking about time spent repairs in the pits

How many classic ford muscle cars are there???? BOSS Mustangs/GT500 etc

GM has Chevelle, 442, GTO, GTX Buicks, Corvette, Camero, Trans AM on and on.....

Bottom line ...

ugly ass ZOOKs suck and if you and a busa go to another place and time... read the FORUM title
