Hold the presses....

December's "OUT" magazine, coming out on your newstands next week, just revealed that the new R-1 is the number one boy magnet on the Hollywood streets today. Hans Bods, the gay biker/superwriter, wrote in his column that he was almost grabbed off the R-1 he was riding down Melrose Ave. Saturday night. "The boys came out of nowhere and were all over me", Hans wrote. "I wasn't even packing the sausage that comes with each bike" he later confessed. "I just looove the lines... and the seat is sooo firm". His article ends with the fact the ZX-14 was still the number one "chick magnet" but as Hans describes it... "who has time for chicks when you can ride an R-1... and don't even need to buy him a drink"!

Steve, you still have time to return it!

The Graves pipes are made by Ti-Force, or at least the same outfit. I have been told this by an ex-Graves guy - here in sunny SoCal. I have an 04R1 with a full TiForce, PCIIIR+ign module, quick shifter ++ built motor +2mm, cams, carillos, Yoyodyne slipper, APE crank etc etc and when funds permit race at Willow Springs.
I luv my 14 but its got nothing for my R1 as soon as you put a corner or two in the mix.

Good luck.

no, for every 1 gay fella' riding an R1, there's 100 of us straights riding it

and you'll see the pics of the wiminz on my R1, moreso than my ZX14 I suspect. If you think I'm talkin' chit stay tuned ...... :P

I knew I'd be bashed on a drag bike forum for the R1, but its all good

thanks for the tip regarding exhaust.

and yes, I agree. my 14 had nothing regarding corner speed or brake distances compared to the R1. But for a big bike, I have to admit that 14 handled great and it wasn't a problem knee dragging it. In the mountains last week it was awesome too

yes, not much will touch the 14 for comfortable, high speed, 600 miles or -full day- twisty days in the saddle.
My friend would just roll off the throttle and cruise around corners I had to brake very hard for, since i was using the HP of the 14 to stay ahead in the straights.
My speeds were up and down like whores drawers, while his were much more consistant in out and through the corners. He'd pass me in the apex, and I get him back the next straight. Cat and mouse all day... Found it very unnerving to have someone go by me like that on my inside... if he goes down he might take me with him... after a while I just let him go, and stayed close behind... I have issue trusting the skills and equipment of others.

ya I like the speed in the corners if i had a choice. thats how i kept up with the folks at deal's gap/mountains was bullying my way on the straights. but on the streets its not a race anyway I just enjoy the better handling bikes and faster cornering/braking speeds vs. brute straightline force and top speeds.

I'm more track type bike than anything. On the race track my 14 would be BLISTERED by my 600RR or this bike with same rider (me) on each bike regarding shortest lap times. In a year to 18 months when I get my next bike I'm confident the track plastics will be on this R1 - thats if it holds up. I hope it will anyway, if it doesn't and has re-occuring issues, I'll trade it too

Damn why cant they just make a naked 14 like that??? It looks good enough just pulling them off, so if they designed it that way and cleaned it up it would be a killer seller! Wonder how much weight they could shave off it by losing the fairings and slimming the bulging electronics down.

And I gotta admit steve the 14 just cant pull of the moves of bikes like your R1 or my TL-R. My friend and I went out on our favorite back road for our 'last' full speed ride of the year last weekend. I made the mistake of taking my 14 when he was on his full kit 636 (680+cc's now) and damnit I had the hardest time just staying with him. On my TLR I could rely on outcornering and outbraking him (straightline about tied) but the damn 14 just wouldnt do it. Annoying ass thing was I had to both hang off farther AND lean farther to pull anywhere near the same corner speeds. Must be the longer wheelbase. First time in awhile I've been out of my comfort zone trying to keep up with anybody! But on the brite side? He kept begging me to let him ride it every time we stopped lol. And commenting over and over how he shouldnt have bought a Concourse 14.

I noticed something when I was checking the cargo straps on the trailer of the last leg of the trip from NC, and I swapped the next morning. And it was very minor, happened before, and I really don't want to discuss it but Kawi and I have parted ways with no hard feelings. Truthfully regarding the bike its my favorite one I've ever owned

thanks for the R1 comment, I've always been more the litre bike type but I see another bike bike in my future one day

Here is the running light mod.\

First remove the upper side Fairings, you have to take the two black inner fairing puch pins out to get the side fairings off. Next cut the wiring from the stock blinkers but leave the harness plugged up...On the right side, wire the Black and green wires to the two black wires going to the Running light. The blue wire is not used on this mod....The left side, use the Black and Brown wires to the left side.
