New member in Phoenix w/ HID question
Hi Guys, I am a new forum member and recently bought an '06 14 (second hand) with Two Bros carbon slip ons. I have a Power Cpmmander III and BMC street filter ordered. I am removing the flies and having the package mapped for A/F on a dyno next week. I will post the dyno results soon. My last bike was a Z1000....what a difference, particularly in high speed handling..
I have a question about HIDs. Is the best way to go to put HIDs only on the low beam? Any recommendations about which product and which configuration is welcome. I will already have Lo-Jack and the PC III installed on the bike and am concerned about finding space for the ballast.
Was anyone at Firebird on Sunday? I rented a Gixer 600 from AZ Trackday and saw two Bussas and two 14's racing with me...not a great track for our bike....too tight. I circulated in the supersport section, but hope to improve next time!
If Brian reads this "hello"...I met you at Kawasaki on Chandler Blvd today!

You could do it either way. I have the hid's in all 4. The problem is that the high beams are a little too high. If you adjust them down, then the low beams will be too low, since you can't adjust them individually. I rarely use the high beams, so I adjusted the low beams like I wanted them. Most of the kits on the market are mde by the same 3 or 4 companies. The kit I have now says Xentec on the ballasts, and I have not had any problems with them. The only problem I recall, was the supplied connectors to connect to the factory harness didn't fit tight, so I cut the plugs off the ends and hard wired the ballasts to the bike harness. You can buy these kits on ebay for $80 a pair or less. Compared to some factory Toyota hid's I had at work, I can tell no difference in light output. The only difference is that the factory projectors were made for hid's instead of the bulbs having to be rebased to fit our projectors, so the factory beam pattern is better. I prefer anything between about 5200-6000k at the most, for a more pure white light. I don't care for the real blue or purple look, and I think it draws too much attention to the fact that your lights are not legal. I love mine, and would not consider changing back to halogens. I put them in everything, and have all of my family converted as well.

I forgot. I mounted my right ballasts against the ram air tube on that side, and one of the left ones in the fairing next to the turn signal and one next to the ram air tube since my pc took up half the space next to the ram air tube.

14inPhoenix,
Welcome to the forum. I hope you like you're 14 as much as I do. I hope I'll be able to get out to Firebird for Friday's Run What Ya Brung one of these days soon.
Keep the rubber down and the speed up!
