I HAVE AN EXHAUST QUESTION for the gurus
ran into another 14 owner yesterday and he said he put muzzys and a pc on and dynod his bike (06); came up to 196 hp; my question is this:
the majority of increse comes from the exhaust change i would think. considering this, couldnt one gut the current stock mufflers and insert 2 inch tubes (like in the micron et al. ) pack em with stuffing and voia la ? approximate the same results on the dyno? im serious;

Ya -- unless his Dyno was 20+ HP rich, or he did some motor work - I'd say he's a fucking idiot who loves to exagerate and brag about bullshit...196 HP
Don't believe a fucking word he says -- he's a lying sack of shit, an idiot, or both.

I Don't buy that number either unless motor work has been done. Mine dynoed at 189 with Brocks smeg and track map that was STD hp.

Most of the power from an after market exhaust comes from the length and diameter of the headers and the length and diameter of the can!! a lot more RanD go into than just gutting the cats you might pick up some power but probably not in the right places I say decide on which pipe you want based on what kind of riding you are going to do

You will notice a change down low and much better sound of course...No more twin balancer noise but 196hp is about 18 to 22 hp more than i have seen...And i have seen alot of 14s dynoed...But one thing to remember is the ram air gain that you dont get on most dynos...Did the set-up have ram air or just cooling air...Its really amazing how consistent most 14s are with the same set-ups in Hp...If you stuff the bike with a cooler set-up and ram air on a dyno you might see 190hp...Sorry sounds like a bullshitter to me...

Its just different dyno's man..i have already been through this.. My bike has full muzzy 4-2-1, pciii,race filter...ect....and dynoed at 173 to the wheel... but the best busa on the same dyno made 158 so my point is that different dyno's read different #'s. A buddy of mine said that at Stedman motorsports a 14 with the same mods dynoed at 195hp. He says my tuner is no good.....i disagree there is no way a different tuner got 22hp difference. Its the dyno. He spent 8 hours on my bike and even came back the next day before i came to pick it up cause he was worried that i wouldnt be happy. Anybody that gives that kinda of customer service gets my respect.. He got 7hp and 5ft lbs of torque from it and the hp curve is so much smoother and throttle response is so much better....He called me several times to make sure i was happy with it so he will be my tuner from know on..

look, i know little about this dyno data, but i will say this. every article i read gives different hp readings for essentially identical busas and zx14's; i always thought a dyno was infallibly correct; i guess they are, they are just all different realities

A Superflow Dyno will read completely different then A dynojet a Dynojet 250 will read differently then a 250i and the operator can change the power readings on any of them by playing with correction factors and other things bottom line a Dyno is a tool for comparison and tuning
