Is '08 CPU compatable to the '06 & '07?
Anyone know if the '08 CPU will fit the '06 & '07 Bikes? I am guessing a large part of the performance increase for '08 is in the CPU - mapping and timing changes and earlier opening of the dreaded flys.
I know they are expensive, but it would be nice for someone with access to both bikes would check to see if this is a 'plug and play' mod. A quick dyno test if the '08 CPU fits on the older bikes would be prtetty cool as well.
How about it Brock?.....................Rickey?

+1! That would be cool if you could get some gains from the '08 programming. Maybe you could get enough gain to keep from buying an '08.

Hey Mark
Don't mean to burst your bubble but....
Even if they are interchangeable, you still would need a PC3 to correct the stock 08 fuel curve which has changed to compliment the different style fuel injectors, and headwork
Why go through all the trouble? and $$$
If you want the flies to open sooner, then use a TRE, if you want them OPEN all the time remove them.
The CPU / ECU will not give you all the top end power the 08 has gained... only part of what removing the flies does.
The biggest change anyone will see from the 08 components will be from the cylinder head.
If you want to turn your 06/07 into an 08 , then you will require a cylinder head, and the ECU.

Ya, but the exhaust ports are larger on the 08 and the injectors aren't the same, so mapping wouldn't be the same in any case -- and a large part of the gains would only be in the low end maybe...not above that. The high end gains are real, not just "unrestricted" 06/07 software/flies...they come from new exhaust/exhaust ports and new injectors./ There's probably more that they don't publish. It would still be more effective and cheaper to remove the flies and just add the PC3, than change the ECU for an 08, only to find that you fucked up the mapping and smoked your motor...
So much for your "plug 'n play solution, eh?:P

Make sure you have clearance to mill.
Mine had only 31 thou piston to valve clearance!
Just checked it.
Thinking of headwork myself.

Just sell your old one on E-bay and buy an 08. It would probably be cheaper and certainly less hassle.

Thanks for the feed back guys.
I am very happy with the performance of my '06. It still amazes me how hard the bloody thing pulls and mine is stock except for the Area-P slip on's. I use to mod the hell out of every bike and car I got, now I leave them mostly stock. I don't race it............I just amuse myself with it. I'm not going to caught up with the 'gotta upgrade syndrome' every time a few minor changes are made. Too much money out the door with 2 years of depreciation on the current one. Not sure I would buy another '14 anyway, probably go with something completely different next time. There are too many interesting bikes out there to keep buying essentially the same bike again.
I can see it if you are into racing that upgrading might make sense. 5 -10 horsepower will give you a competitive edge.
I can cope with the fact that it may take me 2 to 5 tenths of a second longer to get up to 150 mph compared to the '08's!

Coby Adams told me yesterday that they use stock valves and cams in Rickey Gadsons bike cause they keep tearing the buckets out of the head with aftermarket cams! he also stated he is working on a set of cams that do work... i have a Coby 4mill. stroker crank with a Adams head, stock valves and cams, ape spring kit, and a back cut tranny going together this month! same motor setup as Ricky G;s and chip Hunters superstreet bikes.... With a 100+ dry shot to top it all off!!!!! should be able to keep up with the big boys now!!!!! but then again my busa buddies couldn't keep up with my stock motor!!! LOL
