ZX-14 cylinder head vs busa and 12r....

I spent an hour examining a zx14 cylinder head tonight.
The outer intake ports are indeed canted inwards much like a busa. But thats where the similarities end.
The sort turn raduis of the intake port is obviously not intended to flow a ton of air. Instead they are shooting the highest velocity center of the column of air at the back of the valve so as to shoot it thru the "window". They did a great job of fixing the chambers from the zx12r chambers. They lowered the eyebrow by widening the chamber instead of laying the eyebrow back like I had to do with the zx12r head.
The head is narrower in both directions, shorter, and weighs less. The head bolt patern in narrower but the spacing on the inner 6 is the same. The bore spacing is the same. The dowel pins are not. This means I'll need a different plate to mount it on the cnc head porting machine.
The exhaust ports are a big improvement over the zx12r and even more so than the busa. They increased the volume bigtime and increased the radius of the short turn.

I might try somthing pretty radical with the intake ports on this one and take a page from the Honda boys book at HRC.

Bob somewhere I read they said the ZX14 head was similar in design to a Cosworth head, and also mentioned it uses a tumble port design. I am no engineer by any means just repeating some internet "hearsay" so you know its accurate.. Lol..

ZXLNT, Yea, its designed to tumble big time when the flow seperates from the short side.

Now that explains why the 14 feels just like a 12 in power delivery and the RPMs needed to get the 14 to perform!!!

Thanks Jim for explaining why the 14 is just like the 12 on the intake...I guess I wouldnt change the intake either, it would make the 14 a totally different bike to ride then!!!

By the way last week I rode a 2007 14 with Muzzy slip ons, 63inch wheelbase,16-42, flies out, and bike not fully strapped in front and in middle hole of rear link going a 9.38 @ 152 on pump gas!!!

If it wasnt for the tach and speedo, I thought I was on my 12!!!

Y2K... cool stuff.. but I need to caution you that you've got to buy an ad of some sort to support the community or posts like this will be removed...

You've been presented with several different advertising options, none of which you seem to like, and I can't help that... you're putting us in a really tough position since anyone else would have had posts like this one removed by now ...

we've been very consistent and even handed in enforcing these rules over the years...

if you want to talk about this stuff to promote your company you'll need to kick in to the pot to help keep the lights turned on...

sorry bro, hope you understand - but we need to be fair to all the other people who have done the same...

Please be respectful of the paying sponsors!

-Thanks!
