I checked mine and had to have a second look. The very edge of the weld looked cracked but it was just the very edge of the weld penetration is sharp...
whew!
I didn't have much luck with the crate damage, I had to get paint quotes for the frame scratch, and it took months to get it straight. The rep told my dealer to hit it with a spray can!
Can you believe that?
The dealer was totally fighting for my cause, but no luck.
The dealer ate the paint estimate and cut me a cheque!
I have a good dealer,
if only they could keep a good mechanic... glad I am able to do all my own work!

Ya these frame break threads always start out with a bang then when we ask for something more than a pic and an excuse (like what Kawi said and such) we never get anything. I say Kawi is innocent until proven guilty. And Internet rants and posts don't count as guilty.
Sure I believe frames break, thats any bike. But what is the failure rate? What caused them to break? To listen to people say "normal use" and no Kawi documentation is BS. And people say "lie" when there's a ten mile long swingarm in the pic!?
See, this thread is exactly like all the others. Starts with a bang then everyone smells 
And like the other threads, the end result is it getting flamed all to h*ll and back

check this out you can call bullshit all you want and say i wrecked my bike and all that shit but screw you im just trying to help
and yes i will send pics of the other bike when i go take them
but you can have all the pics of my bike you want plastic motor frame i dont give a dam just let me know there is no wrecked parts
just what kills me is every time someone post something negative somebody calls bullshit
im not bullshittin these bikes arent flawless
one more thing I really could give a fuck less what kaw says as long as they acknowledge their may be a problem i dont want them to fix it. they didnt do it right the first time and i bet it will be right when im finished
I will have 32 grand in this thing when im done so maybe kaw will help me foot the bill and give me an 08 frame to sell

Fish iam retired ntsb investagator, and maybe i worded this wrong but the info would be ins.co. name an phone # .Then customer would get a call from is ins co to take care of all personnel info i would not have access to anything of the nature you are speaking of. I respect your concern for this board and its members! But beleive me when i tell you they are not the ones who need to give answers. There is alot of second guessing and concern wrightfuly so from owners of the 14 frame problems me included i own two!! There is one way to find out an thats to get all info from owners damaged bikes KHI and ins, co. this will atleast put some of us owners minds at ease, IAM not calling b/s iam not accussing anyone,WE just need to put this to bed once an for all, Fish i presently own a small performance shop in s-deleware. LOOK up the delmarva series racing page that #1 rmz 250 has my shop on it as does the crf 450 thats in the picture that took the season also. MY # is 302 337 3872 no bullshit guys just concern, bill at cannon cycles....

I agree frames break on every model bike and their is a measurable failure rate and causes and conditions

Mine has not broken but I am keeping an eye open...
I just had another really good look at it up on my table lift.. 36" off the ground. The motor mounts are on the main side spars of the frame, above the cross brace that is breaking so, that eliminates loose motor mounts.
The only thing located directly on that cross bracket is the rocker arm on the shock and links. The rocker mount is offset, binding at this pivot could cause torsoinal loads.
"IF " the rocker was to rotate around into the cross brace as the shock is copmressed completely, it would load the cross brace torsionally.
I can't tell for certain if that is a possibility as I am using threaded links, and lowered, so it will not happen on mine, may be a possibility with stock components, but I can not verify.
The rocker arm rotating into the cross brace, or the pivot sizing/ binding is the only possibility I can see other than poor manufacturing.
Ideally they would have checked the clearance at full compression to ensure this could never occur.
If it is either case it is a engineering / manufacturing flaw
I am 99% certain these are the ONLY possibilities.
Nothing else is mounted on that cross brace and the forces on the rocker arm are minimal. It is simply an anchor and hinge point, for the rocker arm. The shock and top bracket for the shock are designed and engineered to maintain the loads of the suspension.
Simply my mechanical perspective .....
Personally I would check the rocker pivot bushing/ bearing for sizure or binding as a first step of inspection on bikes exhibiting broken frames at this location.

I think i posted something on this before...
Why doesn't someone get some photos of the 08 14 and compare the welds / areas in question with the 06 and 07 14's?
If there is a 'substantial' difference - maybe a different alloy used in the weld - then you could all at least have some sort of 'backup' and say to KHI; "Well, why change this"?
Motormania, would be the best to examine the pictures or frames in person then let him give further comments.

Where are the cracks appearing right now?
Will I have to strip the bike to find the fractures?
Should I just strip the dam thing and verify it all.
The latter is the correct approach.
I will do it this weekend.
I am not stretched.
My weight 203 lbs.
No I havent got a gut...

kaw sent me an 08 frame and the welds looked worse than my 06 did except no crack
the frame came with no vin number and i would have had to stamp it my self .so i said fuck it and fixed it my self and sent kaw their frame back so yes the 08 look just like the 06/07 frames dont know if they fixed the problem or not because you cant see weld problems until they crack
